A new data release from the 2021 Census has provided some revealing insights about our workforce.
Some of the key findings were:
+ 64% of employees worked full-time, 36% part-time
+ The top five industries in terms of employee numbers were health care & social assistance (14.5% of all employees), retail trade (9.1%), construction (8.9%), education & training (8.8%) and professional, scientific & technical services (7.8%)
+ The five most popular occupations were general sales assistants (4.3% of all employees), registered nurses (2.2%), general clerks (2.0%), aged & disabled carers (1.9%) and retail managers (1.6%)
+ The five most male-dominated occupations were bricklayers & stonemasons (99.1% male), plumbers (99.0%), sheetmetal trades workers (99.0%), carpenters & joiners (98.9%) and roof tilers (98.9%)
+ The five most female-dominated occupations were midwives (98.7% female), early childhood teachers (97.6%), dental assistants (97.5%), personal assistants (97.1%) and beauty therapists (97.0%)
