Double-H Alpacas

It's been in the ground for over 3 months, and this is as good as it gets apparently, so we made the decision to start feeding the oats to the alpacas. It is trying to die, and no sign of rain for at least a couple of weeks, so it's time to give up on it amounting to anything useful.
The cattle will get the barley in the next couple of days also.
Would have been nice to get enough to give the animals a boost, but seems it was not to be. Let's hope we get a better summer crop.

Well that was a night better off forgotten!

Our yards came off second best when this big tree came out by its roots last night in a storm. Unfortunately it killed one alpaca, has badly injured another and not sure if she will recover, and had a third one trapped that we managed to get out by jacking up the tree in the dark. We think she is ok, but haven't spotted her in the herd yet today (or lying anywhere either, so that is a good thing.)

Lots of other branches down around the place.

Thankfully Ergon got our power issues sorted by about 1am.
We are in the firing line for storms again today. Hopefully they miss us today.

Anyone got any suggestions about how we are going to get that tree over the yards cleaned up? It is a massive tree.

Very grateful to the local dairy that has helped us out with colostrum for the freezer.
We like to keep cow colostrum in the freezer in case we have a slow or weak cria. By dividing it into 120ml doses, it is easy to warm up a couple of feeds when needed.

I know it has been a while since the 2025 Toowoomba Royal Show now, but I finally got around to taking pics of the ribbons and trophies that Double-H Alpacas was lucky enough to being home.

We took a team of 17 animals and 10 fleeces this year, with every entry winning at least one ribbon.
Our animals were awarded Supreme Huacaya in both the halter and fleece sections, with Double-H Ellis winning the halter title, and Double-H Lorenzo the fleece title.

Halter prizes are on the left, and fleece prizes on the right.
Now to start thinking about next years show!

While our open days are still on today, we have had a substantial amount of rain since lunchtime yesterday (around 70mm), and the place is very muddy. The animals are all drenched, and there seem to still be a few light showers still around this morning.
