Bankwest just expanded its LMI waiver, and employees of large technology firms are now on the list, alongside lawyers, accountants, banking staff and some federal government roles.

That means buying with a 10% deposit and paying $0 LMI. On a $1M purchase, that’s around $30k you keep instead of handing to an insurer.

The fine print: you need to be a direct PAYG employee (not a contractor) with at least six months at your employer. State government roles don’t count, only federal.

If that’s you, it’s worth a proper conversation before you assume you need a full 20%.

Finally, some relief? Inflation just came in softer than expected, and it shifts the whole rate conversation.

June CPI landed at 3.8%, down from 4.0% and below what the market tipped. The RBA’s preferred measure, trimmed mean, held at 3.6%. Both still sit above the 2 to 3% target, but the direction is what matters.

After three hikes this year, a cooler-than-forecast number takes the pressure off the RBA to move again. The market read? Rates likely on hold at the next meeting.

If you’re on a variable rate, a pause is your window to breathe and plan.
If you’re buying, borrowing capacity settles when rates stop climbing.
If you’re refinancing, now’s the time to review before the next move.
