If you live in an area that is prone to bushfire, severe storms or cyclones taking the appropriate steps to prepare for extreme weather events is critical.

Much of the essential preparation starts outside your home, but have you thought about how to prepare for an insurance claim?

There are a number of proactive steps you can take to help prepare:
1. Know your insurance policy. Now is the time to review your policy specifics and your sum insured for adequate cover.
2. Take photos of your property and contents. Capture both the inside and outside of your home, fixtures and fittings as well as your belongings.
3. Collate digital copies of important documents, such as passports and marriage certificates, also significant receipts.
4. Save all items to a Cloud-based service, that way you can access all the information easily if you need to evacuate. It can be overwhelming and very difficult to itemise what has been lost after an extreme event, so taking the time to get organised can help to reduce the stress and speed up the claims process.
