🏢 Commercial property owners… do you actually know what your tenant is doing?

Here’s a question you might want to ask:

“Do you or any of your tenants, to your knowledge, sell to***co products, e-cigarette products, or any other to***co or nicotine-related products?”

Seems like a pretty specific question, doesn’t it?

It is. And it can be a VERY important one when it comes to insurance.

You might have a tenant who told you they were opening a retail store, convenience store, café, warehouse or something else entirely.

But businesses change. Operations change. And sometimes what’s happening behind the roller door isn’t quite what you thought you were leasing to. 🚬 😉

And if there’s a claim?

That information can potentially change the insurance outcome.

🔥 Fire
💥 Explosion
💧 Water damage
⚡ Electrical damage
…or any other insured event.

Your insurer is insuring a commercial property based on what they know about the risk.

So, commercial property owners, ask yourself:

👉 Do I know exactly what my tenant sells?

👉 Do I know what activities are being carried out from my premises?

👉 Has anything changed since the policy was arranged?

👉 And most importantly… has my insurer or broker been told?

Because “I didn’t know what they were doing” might be a perfectly honest answer.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t necessarily make the risk disappear.

A quick conversation with your tenant and your broker could be a lot easier than discovering there’s a problem when you’re standing in the middle of a claim wondering what just happened. 😬
