If there’s a Hospitality Tasmania event on, Bruno Palermo is probably already there.

Bruno is our Head of Accounting and a Senior Adviser at Collins SBA. He was born and raised in Hobart, and he’s the person behind our partnership with Hospitality Tasmania.

He works with Tassie business owners to get to the core of the challenge or opportunity, whether that’s lifting profits, shaping strategy or finding the most tax-effective way to structure things. For hospo businesses working long hours and running tight margins, having someone like that in your corner matters.

Two weeks ago, at the 2026 Hospitality Tasmania Awards for Excellence, he presented the Best Mid-range Accommodation award to Georges Bay Apartments. Congratulations to Georges Bay Apartments!

Turning up is very Bruno. He’s the one who rounds up whoever he can from the team to come along, because showing up is how you get to know a community, not just sponsor it.

So if you see him at the next Hospitality Tasmania event, say hello. He’d love to hear what’s going on in your business.

Thank you to Hospitality Tasmania for the photos and for a great night.

An event to remember!

Yesterday evening, a few of our team members got fancied up and headed to MAC 02 for the Tasmanian Hospitality Awards for Excellence 2026. Along with more than a thousand guests, they celebrated the people who keep the hospitality industry running.

Hospitality work is often overlooked. The hours are long and unforgiving, and they don't let up all year. These are the people behind every hotel stay and restaurant visit, so it was great to put them in the spotlight and recognise what they've achieved.

Collins SBA is a Gold Sponsor of Hospitality Tasmania, and we are proud to back our local hospitality industry and the incredible people behind it.

Tasmania is a first-rate tourist destination, and that's largely thanks to the people who keep our restaurants, wineries, breweries, and fine dining experiences going.

Thank you to Hospitality Tasmania for hosting us at such an excellent event, and a massive congratulations to all of the winners and finalists recognised last night.

Most of us set up a loan and don't look at it again for years. Right now, it's worth a look.

Some lenders are chasing refinance business with sharper rates. But if your loans sit in a trust with a company as trustee, refinancing could be harder than you'd expect.

Swipe through for what to know and five questions to ask about your loans.

Cinema booked. Switch plugged in. Kids in tow. No client wins to announce, no milestone to celebrate - just a Friday we wanted to spend together.

This is what Friday afternoons look like around here sometimes.

Well done team!

On Saturday 4th of July, Collins SBA participated in the Annual Spin4Kids event down at PW1, raising money for Variety Tasmania. This year was the biggest and most successful year so far, with over $66,000 being raised! Our team managed to raise almost a thousand dollars, and spun a whopping 154km on the bike over the course of the event.

Thank you to Variety the Children's Charity TAS for the wonderful work that you are doing, and for putting on such an exciting and engaging event. We can’t wait to do it again next year!

It’s almost here and we need your help!

This Saturday 4th of July is the annual Spin4Kids event down at Princes Wharf 1 and we are sending an awesome team down to the event to ‘race for a reason’. The entire event is put on to raise support and awareness for the incredible work of Variety, The Children’s Charity. Variety operates with the belief that all children deserve the same opportunities and uses their resources to reach kids and families who are at risk of falling through the gaps. Each year, the Spin4Kids event is a wonderful display of community, complete with great music and fun costumes.

We’d love to see you there to cheer on our team and support the mission of Variety Tasmania, but even if you can’t make it on the day, you can still show your support and donate at the link below. It would truly be amazing to reach our goal of $2,500 but any amount helps!

It’s that time of year again! Variety’s annual ‘Race for a Reason’ event is coming up on Saturday July 4th and Collins SBA is once again hopping on the bike to raise some money for this fantastic cause. It is a great event with fun costumes, pumping music, an electric atmosphere and a massive impact on the lives of kids living with illness or disabilities.

We’d love to see you there to cheer on our team and support the mission of Variety Tasmania but even if you can’t make it on the day, you can still show your support and donate at the link below. It would truly be amazing to reach our goal of $2,500 but any amount helps!

One of our clients was distributing income between three family members through a trust. After a strong year, all three were pushed into higher tax brackets.

During a tax planning session, we identified a better approach that reduced their effective family tax rate from roughly 35% to around 24%.

Same income. Same business. Just a better structure.

That’s the kind of conversation that happens when you plan ahead instead of reacting after the fact.

A change is coming that will reshape how you pay your team’s super.

From 1 July 2026, super will need to be paid at the same time as wages, not quarterly. Every pay run, every cycle, super goes in alongside the rest.

The timing matters. The ATO can charge penalties and interest if super lands late, and most current payroll processes will need a closer look before July.

A few practical things to think about now:

• Check how you currently pay super, whether that’s through payroll software, a clearing house, or manually.

• Speak with your payroll provider to confirm they’re ready for the change. Most of the major ones already are.

• Finalise your June quarter super by 28 July 2026. This is the last quarterly payment, and it’s an important one to get right.

There’s still time to prepare. No rush, just a quiet heads-up so you can step into July with clarity, confidence and control.

There’s a question we hear every year.

“I made good money. So why haven’t I got anything left to pay the tax bill?”

The answer is usually simple. The profit was real, but it was already spent. Debt repayments, equipment, drawings, personal expenses.

Tax planning is the forward-looking conversation that helps you see what’s coming before 30 June, while there’s still time to prepare.

We’ve written about what it actually involves and why it matters.
