Don’t stress — you’re not the first, and you definitely won’t be the last! Getting a “NO” from a bank is basically a rite of passage these days… right up there with burning your first snag on the barbie.

Here’s a fun fact: Mortgage brokers now handle 76.8% of all home loans in Australia — and honestly, it’s no surprise. Every bank looks at your situation differently… kinda like how every Aussie café claims they make the best flat white, yet half of them taste like someone waved a coffee bean over warm milk and hoped for the best.

So if your bank has slapped you with a big ol’ “NOPE”, don’t go chucking your homeownership dreams in the too-hard basket. I look at your situation across a whole range of lenders — the big guys, the small guys, the “who-are-they-again?” guys — because sometimes the right bank is the one you’d never think of.

Sick of giving up your weekends to look at rental properties? You rock up, full of hope, the ad said “well appointed and compact” — and you walk in to find a “kitchenette” that’s basically a hot plate, a bar fridge, and a sink the size of a salad bowl. 🤦‍♂️

The agent’s calling it “cosy,” but you’re pretty sure that’s code for “you can cook dinner and brush your teeth at the same time.” The bedroom’s technically “open plan” (aka there’s no wall), and the balcony? It’s just a railing outside the sliding door.

You start wondering if you should bring your own measuring tape or just your sense of humour to the next inspection.

Maybe it’s time to stop living out of moving boxes and start thinking about buying a place of your own. At least then when you see “well appointed and compact” — you’ll know it’s because you chose it that way.
