EOFY DEALS – and the PITFALLS to watch out for!

The end of the financial year is a great time to purchase a car, especially for business buyers looking to reduce their income tax and GST bills. Dealers are in a mad scramble to meet their annual targets and will fall over themselves to do a deal and get their bonuses, however often they’ll leverage off the hype, the advertising campaigns and the time pressure to secure a vehicle, to offload older and less desirable stock. When purchasing your car, make sure you check the build date, the dealer may tell you it’s a 2018 (and it may be an MY18), but it could have been built over 12 months ago in 2017, and when you go to sell your car, it’s the build date that matters and which seriously effects your resale value.

Another thing to question is why has it been sitting there for so long? Has it got all the features that you want, and is it the right colour combination, or are you compromising? Does it have the latest safety equipment? Poorly equipped cars and the build date are the two greatest factors that contribute to depreciation, and conceding on these things can cost you thousands of dollars in the long-run, plus you have to live with that car and its feature (or lack of) for 3-5 years or whenever you decide to sell it.

Take your time with it. Shop around and look at multiple dealers and consider speaking with a car buying service that can tender out the search for your ideal car to a national network and access fleet pricing for it.
