You never know who you’ll meet on the road! 🦘

Ben and Lydia were out and about visiting clients last week when a stop at Caltex Traveston Servo presented a photo opportunity they couldn’t resist.

For those who remember her, this is Matilda, the giant kangaroo mascot from the 1982 Brisbane Commonwealth Games.

There is plenty of time spent behind a desk in insurance, but some of the most valuable time is spent out on the road, catching up with clients and seeing their businesses firsthand.

It helps us understand what has changed, what matters to the business and where insurance needs may have evolved.

And occasionally, you get to catch up with an Australian sporting icon along the way!

It’s been a tough couple of days for Lydia... 😢🏉

Lydia was backing the Brisbane Broncos all the way in Sunday’s NRLW Grand Final.

Unfortunately, things didn’t quite go to plan.

Thankfully, Kassidy and Ben were on hand today to provide some much-needed emotional support. We’re not sure it’s helping yet. 😂

That’s what a good team is about though. You celebrate the wins together and you’re there for each other when things don’t go your way.

It’s something we believe in with our clients too. Insurance is there for those times when things don’t go according to plan, and having the right people around you can make navigating what happens next a whole lot easier.

Chin up, Lydia. There’s always next year! ❤️💛

☕ The office coffee just got an upgrade!

Ben recently had his coffee machine in for some TLC, and we're pleased to report it’s back in action and has taken up residence at the office.

That’s good news for the team, but also for anyone dropping in to see us!

We’ve always believed that some of the best conversations happen over a good coffee. So if you’re coming in to talk insurance, ask a question or simply catch up with the ARMA team, there’s now a pretty decent coffee waiting for you too. ☕😊

What a day at the Gympie Turf Club on Saturday for The Crystal Vase Race Day!

There was plenty happening on the track, but the horses certainly weren’t the only ones putting on a show. The Publicans had the crowd going and brought a fantastic atmosphere to the day.

It was great to see so many people out enjoying themselves and supporting another local event here in Gympie.

The team at ARMA Insurance Brokers loves seeing events like this bring the community together. Congratulations to everyone involved in putting on a great day, and to The Publicans for absolutely going off!

A good excuse to get dressed up, catch up with a few familiar faces and enjoy an afternoon at the races. 🏇

The Crystal Vase Race Day is on this Saturday at the Gympie Turf Club and it’s always great to see events like this bringing people together from across the Gympie region.

For ARMA, being a local business means being part of the community beyond the office. It’s about knowing the people, supporting local events and enjoying the occasions that make our region a great place to live and do business.

We hope everyone heading trackside has a fantastic afternoon.

You wouldn’t expect sterilising a baby bottle to end in an insurance claim. 🍼🔥

But that’s exactly what happened in one unusual landlord insurance case.

A tenant was sterilising a baby bottle in boiling water on the stove and accidentally left the property with the stove still on.

The water eventually boiled dry, the bottle melted and a fire started, causing damage to the rental property.

It’s certainly an unusual claim, but it highlights something important for property investors.

Not every major loss starts with a major event. Sometimes it’s an everyday mistake that can leave a landlord facing thousands of dollars in damage, repairs and potentially lost rental income.

That’s why landlord insurance is worth looking at carefully. Cover can vary between policies, particularly when it comes to accidental damage, tenant-related damage and loss of rent.

You’d think an echidna digging its way into a house would make for a fairly straightforward insurance claim.

Apparently not. 🦔

In a recent Australian insurance dispute, an echidna dug through the wall of a property before causing damage to walls, skirting boards and carpet inside.

The insurer declined the claim because the policy excluded damage caused by animal “scratching”.

The argument put forward was that the echidna hadn’t scratched its way in. It had dug and burrowed its way in.

It eventually went before the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA), which sided with the insurer, finding that the damage caused by the echidna’s claws fell within the policy’s scratching exclusion.

It’s certainly one of the more unusual insurance disputes we’ve come across, but there’s also a serious point behind it.

Sometimes the outcome of a claim can come down to the interpretation of just one word in an insurance policy.

And while we can’t predict when an echidna might decide your house looks inviting, understanding what your policy does and doesn’t cover before something happens is always worthwhile.

That’s where having a broker in your corner can make a difference.
