Our Story:
Queensland's first Community Bank® Branch opened on 1st October 2001 in Paradise Point as a result the last two big banks closing their doors to the com

munity in 2000. There was an obvious void that needed to be filled, so like minded business people and community members approached Bendigo Bank to propose a Community Bank® for the local community. Bendigo Bank agreed to investigate the support from the local community for a full-service branch. After a successful campaign with businesses and residents embracing the concept, the community raised the required capital of $625,000 via a Public Company prospectus to establish the branch. Since Paradise Point's opening, Upper Coomera opened it's doors on 19 May 2005 followed by Ormeau on 8 August 2008. Together the three branches have banned together to provide over $1 million in sponsorships and donations to not-for-profit community groups and organisations in the Gold Coast North region.

Teachers, support staff and volunteers do SO much behind the scenes for our local kids – and we're proud to support initiatives that recognise their efforts ❤️

Thanks to our customers, we've been able to support Coomera Rivers State School's staff appreciation events and end-of-term community breakfasts.

These events celebrate the dedication and care shown by staff throughout the year, while also creating opportunities for families to connect, build relationships and strengthen their sense of belonging within the school community. 🫶

Today we're celebrating the amazing Jodie Draffin, who has clocked up 13 years service with Bendigo Bank.👏🏻✨

Jodie actually began her banking career more than 30 years ago (with another institution!) - and in that time, she’s seen it all. From passbooks, cheques and manual cash counting through to today’s digital world, where the next generation may never even use an ATM!

While plenty has changed over the years, one thing hasn’t - Jodie’s genuine passion for her customers and community ❤️

Here’s proof that pigs can do almost anything 🏀 🐷

Alongside our team, our Piggy helps support Gold Coast community events and initiatives - including the Filipino Basketball Carnival in Palm Beach this past weekend. ✨

Run by the Gold Coast Fil-Aus Basketball League, this event has been bringing people together for four years - with more than 500 attendees from across Australia gathering to celebrate culture, connection and community. ❤️

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make it happen. We loved being part of it! 🫶🏻

Meet Minh 👋🏻

Minh is a student at Griffith University and earlier this year, she had the opportunity to take part in the Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics Summer Scholarship Program.

We recently caught up with Minh to learn more about her experience.

🏡 Originally from Hanoi, Vietnam, Minh moved to the Gold Coast two years ago to pursue her studies.

🔬 With a long-standing interest in biology, Minh chose this field because she wanted to explore how science and healthcare can work together to improve people’s lives.

🧪 After graduating, Minh hopes to become a medical laboratory scientist and may also pursue further research opportunities.

✨ Minh found the Summer Scholarship Program really valuable, because it gave her hands-on experience & insights into what it’s really like to work in a research laboratory. Thankfully, it only confirmed what she was already pretty sure of - this is the path she wants to pursue!

When your job is to support your local community to thrive, there’s never a dull moment! Here’s what our team have been up to throughout May.

📸 1: We supported Smile Back to host a fundraising lunch to help raise awareness of endometriosis. 💛

📸 2: Ash & Sam headed along to the Gold Coast Rollers WNWBL media launch 🏀 Their season kicks off this weekend and we can’t wait to cheer them on.

📸 3 & 4: Jenny supported Open Haven Ltd ’s fundraising event at Distillery. Open Haven does incredible work supporting women and children experiencing domestic violence through vital programs and resources.

📸 5: We visited our friends at Griffith University Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics and got to see the Community Bank Paradise Point Flow Cytometry Facility in action! This cutting-edge machine analyses individual cells to help researchers develop and test vaccines, drugs and cancer treatments. It’s already playing a vital role in malaria and Strep A vaccine research, cancer studies, and advancing therapies now progressing through clinical trials.
