Our Story:
Queensland's first Community Bank® Branch opened on 1st October 2001 in Paradise Point as a result the last two big banks closing their doors to the community in 2000. There was an obvious void that needed to be filled, so like minded business people and community members approached Bendigo Bank to propose a Community Bank® for the local community. Bendigo Bank agreed to investigate the support from the local community for a full-service branch. After a successful campaign with businesses and residents embracing the concept, the community raised the required capital of $625,000 via a Public Company prospectus to establish the branch. Since Paradise Point's opening, Upper Coomera opened it's doors on 19 May 2005 followed by Ormeau on 8 August 2008. Together the three branches have banned together to provide over $1 million in sponsorships and donations to not-for-profit community groups and organisations in the Gold Coast North region.

🎄 It's official - the decorations are appearing in shops, and with just seven weeks to go until Christmas, we're starting to get into the spirit!

But while Christmas is a time of excitement and celebration for many, sadly, that's not the case for everyone in our community. That's where Christmas Presents for Kids in Care comes in. 🎁 This wonderful initiative works to ensure children in the care of the Department of Child Safety don't miss out on the magic of Christmas.

Each child receives a special gift bag filled with $100 worth of presents, along with lollies, Christmas chocolates and some practical school essentials, including a pencil case, notebook and pens.

We're incredibly proud to support this wonderful initiative and the people working so hard to bring a little extra Christmas magic to children who need it most. ✨

Recently, some of our team had the opportunity to tour the BioSpine Augmented Ability Hub at Griffith University’s Southport campus, alongside Dr Dinesh Palipana and Dr Yana Salchak. 🧠✨

Our Community Bank is incredibly proud of our ongoing partnership with Griffith University, and once again, we were blown away by the innovative, life-changing research happening right here on the Gold Coast. Here’s what Dr Dinesh had to tell us about his work:

🔎 Tell us a little about the BioSpine Augmented Ability Hub. What are you hoping to achieve?
We’re exploring how virtual reality, brain-controlled technology and electrical stimulation can help people with spinal cord injuries regain movement and independence. We’ve already seen some really promising results!

🩷 What motivated you to become involved in this research?
In 2010, a car accident left me paralysed from the chest down - so this research is incredibly personal to me! Having experienced the challenges of a spinal cord injury firsthand, I’m passionate about helping others regain their independence and quality of life.

🌍 How far-reaching could the impact of your work be?
The possibilities are incredibly exciting! Beyond spinal cord injuries, our research could help people living with conditions like stroke and cerebral palsy. Ultimately, it’s about restoring movement, improving lives and giving people hope for the future.

You made what could have been a complicated and stressful experience feel so smooth and stress-free. We truly appreciate the time, effort, patience, and care you put into supporting us throughout this journey.

Buying our first home was a huge milestone for us, and having such wonderful people supporting us made the experience even more special. We feel very fortunate to have worked with both of you and are genuinely grateful for everything you have done to help us get to this point.

Recently, our Senior Manager, Ash, and Chair, Lesley, had the pleasure of meeting with Queensland Premier, David Crisafulli MP

25 years ago, we proudly became Queensland's very first Community Bank - so it was particularly special to have the opportunity to share with David just how much of an impact we've made across the Gold Coast since then. 🤍

What many people don't realise is that we're a locally owned business, reinvesting the majority of our profits straight back into the communities we serve.

It was wonderful to share some of the local stories behind that impact, and talk about the difference our unique banking model continues to make for local people, organisations and community groups.

As a Community Bank, we reinvest a large portion of our profits straight back into the Gold Coast. One of our recent recipients was the Gold Coast Rollers WNWBL team, who we were incredibly proud to support for their 2026 season! 🏀

This incredible team have an exciting future ahead - with the Wheelchair Basketball Australia Finals coming to the Gold Coast in 2027 and 2028, not to mention the Brisbane 2032 Paralympic Games on the horizon!

It's an exciting time for wheelchair basketball, and we're so proud to be part of their team.
