As expected, the RBA has held the cash rate steady at 4.35% at its August meeting.

Winter has brought both lower temperatures and a slight cooling across the economy - with inflation softening and both the jobs and housing markets slowing.

With these factors in mind, the RBA has opted to pause and assess the impact of previous rate hikes, despite ongoing pressure on fuel prices linked to Middle East tensions.

The hold was anticipated, but it doesn’t mean things won’t shift as we head into spring.

It’s still a smart time to rug up, review your loan, and make sure you’re on a competitive rate and structure.

If you’d like to run through your options, I’m here to help.

Here's a statistic that might surprise you 👇

81% of all new home loans in Australia (Jan–Mar) were written by brokers - the highest market share on record (MFAA - https://bit.ly/MFAA_8in10homeloans ).

Aussies are choosing brokers to secure sharper deals, access more options, and get approvals where banks may say no.

At its June meeting, the Reserve Bank of Australia has held the cash rate steady at 4.35%.

With inflation still sitting above target and fuel prices elevated amid Middle East tensions (hopefully easing soon), the decision to pause comes as the RBA takes time to assess the impact of previous rate hikes.

The hold was widely expected, but it doesn’t necessarily mean we’re out of the woods just yet.

We’ll be watching closely to see how lenders respond in the coming days. It’s still a good time to review your loan and make sure you’re on a competitive rate and structure.

Big week with the Federal Budget, and there are a few key changes I’m already talking through with clients 👇

From 1 July 2027, negative gearing will be limited to new builds only - meaning existing investment properties won’t offer the same tax benefits moving forward.

On top of that, the current 50% CGT discount is set to be replaced with an indexation model and a minimum 30% tax rate… a pretty significant shift for investors.

There’s also some modest cost-of-living relief coming, including a $250 tax offset and a $1,000 instant deduction for work-related expenses.

What does this mean? Strategy matters more than ever - whether you’re buying your first home, upgrading, or investing.

If you’re unsure how these changes could impact you, I’m happy to have a chat 🤝 Call me on 0423 288 057.
