Waiting feels like the safe option. It’s not neutral, it’s a choice with its own cost, just one that’s harder to see 👇
1. “Once things settle down” isn’t a strategy, it’s a delay with a nicer name. Business owners especially tend to treat investing as the thing that happens after everything else is sorted. Everything else is never fully sorted, so the delay just keeps extending.
2. Time in the market matters more than most people realise. It’s not about picking the perfect entry point. It’s about how long the money’s actually been given to work, and every year spent “waiting for the right time” is a year that opportunity doesn’t come back.
3. Waiting feels responsible, but it’s still a decision with an outcome. Doing nothing isn’t a neutral, risk-free choice. It’s an active choice to leave surplus doing nothing, which has its own consequences even if they’re less visible than a bad investment would be.
4. The “right time” rarely announces itself. Most people are waiting for a feeling of certainty that never actually arrives, market conditions change, life changes, there’s always a reason it doesn’t feel like the moment.
5. The earlier the conversation happens, the more options are actually on the table. Waiting doesn’t just delay growth, it narrows the strategies available later, because time is one input you can’t get back once it’s gone.
The instinct to wait for certainty is completely understandable. It’s just worth knowing that waiting has a cost too, even when it doesn’t feel like one. 📩
