The RBA has increased the cash rate by 0.25% to 4.60% โ its highest level since 2011.
Another rate rise certainly isnโt the news mortgage holders wanted to hear, but there is a reason behind the decision.
The RBA says inflation is still running too high. Rising global energy and fuel prices are adding to the pressure, while businesses continue to face higher costs and recent inflation figures have come in stronger than expected๐ .
This latest increase aims to help bring inflation back under control and keep price increases in check over the longer term.
There are also signs the economy is slowing, with consumer spending easing, property prices falling across most capital cities and new home lending declining๐ .
So, what does it mean for your home loan?๐
While many lenders are expected to review their rates following the increase, each will decide when and by how much to change its rates.
That said, now is a good time to check in on your home loan. โ
I can help you work out what any rate change could mean for your repayments, check whether your current loan and rate are still competitive, and look at what other options may be available.
