When you apply for pre-approval, lenders don't just look at how much you've saved. They typically review 3 months of bank and credit statements to assess your day-to-day spending rhythm.
Three things they routinely check:
Undeclared liabilities: Unused Buy-Now-Pay-Later accounts, credit card limits (even with zero balance), or personal overdrafts.
Account conduct: Avoid dishonour fees or overdrawn balances, as credit assessors flag these immediately.
Recurring commitments: Subscriptions, gym memberships, private health insurance, and regular cash transfers to savings or family.
No need to survive on instant noodles, but tidy, consistent statements in the 90 days before applying make approval significantly smoother.
