When your fixed rate is nearing its end, your mortgage broker and your lender will usually contact you to discuss your options. It’s important to stay on top of your fixed loan expiry date, as once this passes you will automatically roll onto a variable product, which may not have the rate and features that are right for you.

Home equity is the difference between your property’s market value and the balance of your mortgage. For example, if your home is worth $900,000 and there is $700,000 remaining on your mortgage, you have home equity of $200,000.

You can borrow against your equity for a number of purposes, including leveraging off of that to buy an investment property | cash out for any purpose | renovating etc .
