The level of misinformation here is mind-boggling! 🤯 We don't know how one anecdotal incident is considered 'news'. Not sure what's worse, the article or the comments?
To provide the context of the article, a family bought a 6-year-old electric Ford Focus, which required a new battery which was unfortunately discontinued, hence the cost of sourcing a new one.
Here are some actual facts regarding the comments made undefined ✅👇
Most EV drivers can expect upwards of 100,000 miles, with the majority of manufacters offering 8 year/100,000 mile warranties. Although the batteries may get to a point they're not usable for driving anymore, they can still be used for home energy storage i.e home solar systems ☀️
The prices of EV batteries are already dropping significantly and in 10 years' time, we can expect them to be a lot cheaper. On top of this, we have seen the rollout of battery leasing by certain companies, which means you never have to worry about replacing the battery again 🔋
Couple this with the fact that EVs suffer less wear and tear due to having fewer moving parts than ICE vehicles, they are most certainly not 'throwaway cars' ❌
Recent studies show that EVs produce nearly 70% fewer greenhouse gases throughout their lifetime vs traditional cars 💨
There's also nothing to support the fact that EVs are causing power shortages. There are discussions over this becoming a potential issue in the distant future but likewise, there are already solutions being put in place.
Such as smart chargers which help to regulate the supply and also the National Grid pilot project to have EV owners use their cars to help support the network at peak times, which in turn reduces the homeowner's electricity bills 💷
Electric vehicles are in no way perfect, but neither were the first petrol cars.
EV's will definitely save you money in the long run. By 2030, the UK Government will have banned the sales of new petrol & diesel cars, so having an electric car will become inevitable.
The more people that make the switch, the sooner the technology will evolve even further to completely outperform ICE vehicles in every department 🥇
