Centrelink Changes from 20 March 2026 – What Retirees Need to Know
From 20 March 2026, two key changes will affect Age Pension recipients:

📈 1️⃣ Deeming Rates Increasing
Centrelink will assume a higher rate of return on financial assets:
• Lower deeming rate increases from 0.75% to 1.25%
• Higher deeming rate increases from 2.75% to 3.25%
Deeming is how Centrelink estimates income from your financial assets (cash, term deposits, shares, managed funds) for the income test.
💰 2️⃣ Age Pension Indexation
Pension payments are increasing:
• +$29.70 per fortnight (single)
• +$22.40 per fortnight (each member of a couple)
• +$44.80 per fortnight (couple combined)

While pension payments are rising, the higher deeming rates may reduce entitlement for retirees with larger financial assets.
⚖ The net outcome will depend on your personal asset position.
