I had the absolute privilege of attending the Central Coast Women’s Health Centre (CCWHC) 50-Year Gala Event—an evening filled with glitz, connection, and deeply impactful stories. While the venue, atmosphere, and performance by local legend Kasey Chambers made it a special night, it was the words shared from the stage that truly stole the show.
Key moments that resonated deeply:
✨MC Maz Compton kept the energy high and the room engaged with her signature charm.
✨Aunty Sue, proud Wiradjuri woman and feminist icon connected to the historic Elsie Refuge, delivered a grounding Acknowledgement of Country.
✨Sara Foster, CEO of CCWHC, brought many to tears sharing a passionate, lived-experience account of the "everywoman" who turns to the Centre in times of desperate need.
✨Jess Hill gave an incredibly powerful and motivating discourse on coercive control and domestic violence, highlighting the vital research shaping our path forward.
While we gathered to honor five decades of incredible achievements, the underlying message was loud and clear: there is still so much work to do.
With record numbers of women seeking refuge from harrowing situations, the need for safe, grounded spaces is higher than ever. It was inspiring to stand in a room full of people dedicated not just to celebrating the past, but to actively committing to a future where every woman has access to care and safety when she needs it most.
Here’s to the next 50 years of impact. 💪
