Start with people. Make sure everyone is safe and contact emergency services if needed.

Once it is safe to do so:

✔️ Take reasonable steps to prevent further damage.
✔️ Take photos or video of the damage and the wider area.
✔️ Keep damaged items unless you are told they can be disposed of.
✔️ Save receipts for urgent costs or temporary repairs.

A header, tractor or chaser bin being out of action at the wrong time can quickly create pressure.

Before things get busy, check that recent purchases, upgrades and current machinery values are reflected in your policy.

It is also worth knowing the difference between accidental damage and mechanical breakdown. A machinery policy may respond when equipment is damaged by an insured event, but ordinary wear, maintenance issues or internal mechanical failure may be treated differently.

The answer depends on the cover you hold and the policy terms.
Downtime matters at harvest, so it is better to ask the question before the machine stops.

There is plenty to think about before the weather heats up, but your insurance deserves a spot on the list too.

Machinery values change, sheds are improved, fencing is replaced, feed is stored and equipment moves around the property. If those details have changed, your cover may need to change with them.

Take a moment to check the values listed for your machinery, sheds, fencing, livestock and stored feed. It is also worth checking what is listed at each property and whether recent purchases or improvements have been added.

Preparation on the ground matters too. Have a current bush fire plan, keep access points clear and follow NSW RFS advice for your property.

It can put pressure on the injured worker, their family, the rest of your team and the day-to-day running of the business. That is why workplace safety and the right insurance arrangements both matter.

Workers' compensation may support an eligible worker with a work-related injury, while other business covers may respond to related property damage, liability or lost income, depending on what happened and the policy terms. They each do a different job.

National Safe Work Month is a good reminder to look at the risks in your workplace, talk them through with your team and check that your insurance still reflects how the business operates today.

Last week, Brett proudly represented BurMac Insurance Solutions at the Sing Out Choir Charity Golf Day.

As both participants and sponsors of the event, we were delighted to support such a wonderful cause and see the incredible community spirit on display throughout the day.

Congratulations to the Sing Out Choir team and everyone involved on raising more than $30,000 to help continue bringing people together through music and community. What an outstanding result!
