Road users are advised that there will be changed traffic conditions on the Main Street of Coonamble (Castlereagh Street, between the Castlereagh Highway and Tooloon Street) this weekend 5-6 September 2026.

The cooperation of residents and visitors is appreciated, allowing street beautification works to be safely carried out.

Although there will no through access for traffic, access to cafes and businesses will be readily available.

Scheduled hours of works this weekend:
Saturday 5 September 2026: 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Sunday 6 September 2026: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Gulargambone businesses are showing strong support for recycling initiatives, with Gulargambone Supermarket leading the way.

Council has explored opportunities to reduce the amount of cardboard going to landfill, and a cardboard recycling trial is now underway. Several other local businesses have also expressed interest and are coming on board by depositing their cardboard for recycling.

📍 A cardboard-only recycling bin is available in the car park next to the supermarket.

✅ Please help us make this trial a success by placing only cardboard in the cardboard recycling bin.

📢𝗕𝗢𝗥𝗘 𝟱 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘 – 𝗖𝗢𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗠𝗕𝗟𝗘 𝗧𝗢𝗪𝗡 𝗪𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗦𝗨𝗣𝗣𝗟𝗬

Great progress on Bore 5, one of Coonamble’s key town water supply bores, it has now been successfully drilled to a depth of 686m! 💧

Over the coming weeks, the IMPAX team will be on-site to develop and commission the bore, getting it ready to come online ahead of the warmer months.

You may notice water flowing around the northern end of Wingadee Street, this is expected and nothing to be alarmed about.

This is part of a process called bore development. Newly drilled bores need to be “deep cleaned” to clear out fine sediment and stabilise the surrounding sandstone formation.
Flushing water out is how this works, it’s not wasted, it’s a necessary engineering step to ensure the bore delivers clean, clear, sediment-free water once it’s connected to the supply.

Skipping this step would risk a bore that delivers dirty or unreliable water, or one that fails prematurely, so this investment now means a more reliable water supply for the community for years to come.

Thanks for your patience while we get Bore 5 ready to help keep the taps running, the showers going, and the town supplied through summer. 🚿🚽

Coonamble Shire Council advises the travelling public that all unsealed roads are now open to all vehicles; however, motorists are urged to drive with caution.

🚜 Primary producers are kindly requested to minimise the movement of heavy vehicles until unsealed sections between properties and the sealed road network have thoroughly dried out.

⚠️ Travellers should take extra care when using unsealed roads by:
• Slowing down and driving to the conditions
• Anticipating muddy sections, particularly at causeways
• Being aware that road conditions may change quickly

From Tuesday, 14 July, a section of Tooraweenah Road will be restricted to local residents and property access only while essential road, drainage and culvert works are completed.

Through traffic will be diverted via:
➡️ Mungery Road
➡️ Goorianawa Road
➡️ Weenya Road
➡️ National Park Road

🚜 Residents will continue to have access to their properties, with the project team working directly with affeted landholders where temporary access changes are required.

Please follow all traffic control and signage and allow extra travel time when travelling through the area.
