Last Friday, Wilsons Business Brokers were proud to co-sponsor the Accountants Training Day at The Newcastle Club alongside Worrells. Thank you to everyone who attended — I really appreciated the positive feedback on our presentation.
One of the key points I made was this: a business that relies on the owner is harder to sell.
That point was reinforced again this week.
We received an offer on a local business — subject to the confirmation on staff numbers being confirmed in a specific dept of that business.
Buyers pay for structure, stability and reduced risk.
A well-built management team doesn’t just make a business easier to run — it makes it easier to sell, and often at a better price.

Wow — 10 years at Wilsons Business Brokers. Where has the time gone?
It’s been an incredibly rewarding journey working with fantastic colleagues, business owners and professional advisors. Over that time, I’ve sold just under $40m worth of local small businesses — helping more than 120 owners successfully move onto their next chapter and more currently under contract.
Sincere thanks to everyone who’s been part of the journey so far. I’m looking forward to many more years of working with great business owners ahead.

Sometimes in this role you get to meet some amazing people doing great work for the community as well as running numerous businesses.
Village grocer owners, at New Lambton is one such group.
Currently owned by the guys who operate Clear Sky Australia, they support people with disabilities to gain important work experience to ready them for open employment.
They own several businesses and use them to provide work experience opportunities for their participants. They have realised that owning so many businesses is simply stretching them too far.
The upside is this amazing little grocery store is on the market for a very realistic price. If a new owner wants to, they could discuss using "Clear Sky" to staff the business into the future.
