As small business owners, it’s easy to feel guilty about taking time away, but the truth is you can’t pour from an empty cup. A night away, no emails, no meetings, just a chance to recharge.

Doug away from the desk this week.

A lot of what Doug does happens behind the scenes — phone calls, follow-ups, chasing answers, asking more questions and making sure things don’t get left sitting in the too-hard basket.

But this week he was also out with the Whitsunday Chamber of Commerce and Industry, spending time with other local business people and being part of the conversations happening in our community.

That matters to us.

Option has never just been about policies and paperwork. It’s about people, relationships and understanding the businesses we work with.

And Doug is pretty good at getting out there, listening, getting involved and doing the work that people don’t always see.

The daily juggle can get pretty busy around here.

Between work, family, commitments and everything else life throws in, it can be easy to let the simple things slide.

But getting out, moving our bodies and taking a little time to reset is something we’re trying to make more of a priority.

Because the truth is, we’re better in every part of life when we look after ourselves too.

Business is busy. Life is busy. But this stuff matters.

Just a little reminder from us to make time for the things that help you feel your best.

Anyone who has dealt with Doug knows he’s not really a “leave it and hope for the best” kind of person.

If something needs following up, he’ll follow it up.

If something doesn’t sound quite right, he’ll ask another question.

And if someone needs something explained properly, he’ll take the time to talk it through.

That’s a big part of how we want people to feel when they deal with Option — informed, supported and not left chasing answers.

It’s not flashy.

Things nobody tells you about running a business with your husband or wife…

Work doesn’t always fit neatly into business hours. Conversations happen in the car, ideas pop up on weekends and “quick chats” have a habit of becoming much longer than planned.

Sometimes it’s chaotic.

sometimes it’s hard to properly switch off.

And sometimes the kids hear more about work than they ever asked to!

But this is also a big part of why we do what we do…

Family, flexibility, freedom, and building something together.

It’s not always perfectly balanced, but it’s ours!
