📢 Another RBA rate rise — but what does it actually mean for your mortgage?
The RBA has increased the cash rate by 0.25% to 4.60%, marking the fourth rate increase in 2026.
For homeowners, this isn’t just a number in the news — it can mean higher mortgage repayments.
💰 Here’s a simple example:
For a $500,000 mortgage with 30 years remaining:
➡️ At 6.00%: approximately $692 per week
➡️ At 6.25%: approximately $711 per week
That’s around $19 more per week, or approximately $83 more per month.
And for larger loan balances, the difference can be even greater.
This is an example only. Actual repayments will depend on your loan balance, interest rate, loan term and repayment type.
What should borrowers consider?
🔹 Have a variable-rate loan? Check how your lender is responding to the RBA increase.
🔹 Coming off a fixed rate? Start planning before your fixed period expires.
🔹 Have an existing home loan? It may be worth reviewing your current rate and loan structure.
🔹 Planning to buy? Recheck your borrowing capacity before making your next move.
🔹 Have a pre-approval? If it was issued several months ago, it may be worth checking whether your borrowing position has changed.
📌 The key takeaway: don’t simply accept your current interest rate without reviewing your options.
Even a small difference in your rate can make a meaningful difference to your repayments over time.
