In Japan, special pathways are built beneath railway tracks to help turtles cross safely without the risk of being run over by trains. These narrow concrete channels guide turtles under the tracks instead of allowing them to wander onto dangerous rail lines.
The idea comes from Japan’s careful approach to balancing infrastructure with nature. Railway operators noticed that turtles were frequently getting stuck between rails or injured while trying to cross, especially during nesting and migration seasons.
