PACE reminder — endorsing your plan manager

If your NDIS plan is in PACE, your plan manager must be endorsed before they can process claims and pay provider invoices on your behalf.

If endorsement is removed or not completed, your plan manager may no longer be able to claim invoices, even if invoices have already been submitted.

Participants and nominees can check endorsement through the myNDIS participant portal or contact the NDIA for support.

Keeping your plan manager endorsement up to date helps avoid delays with invoice processing and provider payments.

Housing can be a major issue for people with disability, especially when trying to understand rental options, accessibility, future planning and support needs.

Queenslanders with Disability Network is hosting online My Housing Options information workshops on 29 June 2026 for people with disability, families, carers, organisations and workers.

This may be helpful for anyone wanting to better understand housing options and planning.

More information:

This workshop supports people with disability and/or their families to better understand their housing situation, priorities, and future options.

NDIS funding periods — what does it mean?

Some NDIS plans now have funding released in stages across the plan, rather than the full budget being available at once.

This does not usually mean the total plan budget has changed. It means the funding may be divided into set periods, such as quarterly periods, and claims need to fit within the funding available for that period.

For participants, nominees and providers, this can affect how quickly invoices can be processed if a funding period has already been used.

Tropical North Bookkeeping encourages participants and support coordinators to keep an eye on budgets, service agreements and spending patterns so supports remain sustainable across the whole plan.

If you are unsure how your funding periods work, check your myNDIS portal, speak with your planner, LAC or support coordinator, or contact your plan manager for budget information.

Small changes can make a big difference.

Queenslanders with Disability Network has released resources through the Small Changes, Big Difference campaign, focused on rental home modifications and accessibility for people with disability.

The campaign includes information for renters, property managers and property owners about minor modifications that may improve safety, independence and confidence at home.

Home automation and the NDIS

Home automation can sometimes support safety, independence and daily living for people with disability.

Examples may include technology that assists with access, communication, lighting, doors, appliances or environmental control.

Before purchasing or claiming home automation through an NDIS plan, it is important to have clear evidence that the item is reasonable and necessary, disability-related, value for money, and linked to the participant’s goals and support needs.

In many cases, supporting evidence from an allied health professional may be required.

When in doubt, seek advice before purchasing so there are no surprises when an invoice is submitted.

NDIS changes are continuing, and it is important that participants, families and carers have access to clear information and opportunities to have their say.

Queenslanders with Disability Network has shared resources about the Securing the NDIS for Future Generations Bill, including summaries and template letters for contacting State and Federal Members of Parliament.

We encourage participants, nominees and families to stay informed and use trusted sources when looking at changes that may affect NDIS supports.

Some of the most important conversations in the NDIS system are also the hardest.

Sometimes it's explaining that a budget won't last until plan end.

Sometimes it's discussing a reduction in services.

Sometimes it's helping participants, families and providers understand what funding can and cannot be used for.

At Tropical North Bookkeeping, we know these conversations aren't always easy. That's why we focus on clear information, respectful communication and helping everyone understand the funding available so informed decisions can be made.

A difficult conversation today can often prevent a much bigger problem tomorrow.

A real question we received this week...

"Can the NDIS fund an alarm clock?"

The answer might surprise you: sometimes, yes.

Many people assume the NDIS only funds large pieces of equipment, but in some circumstances low-cost assistive technology can also be funded.

The important question isn't what the item is — it's how the item helps a person manage the impact of their disability and work towards their NDIS goals.

For example, if a support item helps improve independence, establish routines, support emotional regulation, increase participation, or reduce the impact of a disability, it may be considered for funding when supported by appropriate evidence.

Every participant's circumstances are different, which is why it's important to look at the individual need rather than the item itself.

Have you ever wondered whether a particular item could be funded through the NDIS?

Leave a comment below and we may feature it in a future post.

Ask a Plan Manager

Can I use my NDIS Consumables budget for everyday items?

The answer is: sometimes.

Consumables funding is designed for disability-related everyday items that help you manage the impact of your disability.

What can and can't be claimed depends on your individual circumstances and the NDIS rules.

Have a question about your funding?

Drop it in the comments and we might feature it in our next Ask a Plan Manager post. Or, as always - email us on [email protected] .

Did You Know?

Many participants don't discover there's a problem with their NDIS budget until it's too late to easily fix.

One of the most common things we hear from new clients is:

"I wish I'd known earlier."

That's why we don't just process invoices.

We actively monitor budgets, review funding utilisation and use specialised software to identify potential issues before they become major problems.

When participants, nominees, support coordinators and providers have accurate information, they can make better decisions and plan ahead with confidence.

Good plan management should help prevent surprises — not explain them after they've happened.
