Last Wednesday, Kristy and Meghan from Broken Hill Bank had the pleasure of attending the 2026 Regional Development Australia Far West NSW Careers Expo – they got to speak with students from both local Broken Hill high schools as well as Menindee Central School about the different careers available not only in the financial industry, but right here at Broken Hill Bank 🏦

🎸 With one of Broken Hill’s largest events, Mundi Mundi Bash, happening this month - scammers will be targeting excited locals and tourists alike with last minute tickets and deals that seem too good to be true 🎫

👀 What to look out for;
· Social media profiles that were created recently and have little to no photos, posts or ‘friends’.
· People reaching out unprompted to offer good deals.
· Unusual payment methods such as cryptocurrency, giftcards or direct bank transfers.
· A sense of urgency to buy now so you don’t miss out.
· Large discounts or deals that seem too good to be true.

How to avoid these scams;
🛑 Stop: don’t buy tickets from people you don’t know, unless it’s through an authorised reseller like the events official ticketing agents resell marketplace. Never click a link in an email, text message or social media post claiming to be offering tickets.
🔍 Check: are there any red flags that this could be a scam? If something sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.
💪 Protect: if you think you’ve been scammed, contact us immediately on 08 8088 2199 and we can help you through it.

Remember to talk about current scams with family and friends, and take your time before making any decisions. If you are ever in doubt, give us a call!

Broken Hill Bank is proud to announce our sponsorship of Small Stories at Big Sky Stories ✨

We understand the importance of learning, from reading and writing to dancing and singing, little ones take in an abundance of information in all different formats.
That is why free workshops like Small Stories is vital to our community. It provides a space not only for kids to learn, but for parents and caregivers to join in on their kids' educational journeys.

Small Stories is held twice a week for those aged 2-5 (bubs welcome), Tuesdays at 10:15am and Thursdays at 9:30am (both sessions are the same each week so please only attend one to allow space for everyone!)

⚠ Scam Alert - Fake Purchases ⚠

😈 Scammers are sending fake messages from what appears to be well known companies and services that say you bought something that you didn't buy, and tell you to call a number to stop or reverse the payment.

The message could be via text, email or app notification and could include your personal details such as name, email, phone number and address.

This scam targets anyone and uses a sense of urgency to make you act quickly without stopping to think about the situation.

What to look out for:
🗨 A message about a payment or purchase you don't recognise.
📱 A phone number shown clearly with instructions to call if you didn't make the purchase.
💲 A high-cost purchase, often $300 or more.
🏃 Pressure to act quickly before the money is taken from your account.

What you can do:
🛑 STOP. Don't feel pressured to act quickly. DO NOT call the number in the message or share any personal information, financial information, one-time codes or gift card numbers.
🔍 CHECK. If you have an account with the company or service. Log into your account through the official website or app to check whether the payment is real. Use the official website to find the real phone number to call and query the payment.
📞 PROTECT. If you sent money or shared personal information, tell us immediately on 08 8088 2199 or out of hours call Fraud Bureau Service on 1300 705 750.

Scams can target anyone at any time, stay up to date with current scams via scamwatch.gov.au.
