Australians Are Voting With Their Feet — And Choosing Mortgage Brokers

The latest industry data shows a remarkable shift in how Australians obtain their home loans. In the March quarter of 2020, mortgage brokers facilitated 52.1% of all new residential home loans. Fast forward to March 2026, and that figure has reached a record 81.0%. That's an increase of almost 29 percentage points in just six years.

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) decided to keep the cash rate unchanged at 4.35%, giving borrowers some welcome stability while it assesses how recent rate increases are flowing through the economy.

Inflation has shown some encouraging signs of easing, with annual headline inflation falling to 3.8% in June 2026, down from 4.0% in May 2026. However, underlying inflation remains higher than the RBA would like, with trimmed mean inflation holding at 3.6%.

With the temporary fuel excise reduction ending in early August 2026, petrol prices are expected to lift as the full excise is reinstated. This could add some upward pressure to headline inflation in the coming months and will be another factor for the RBA to monitor.

We were honoured to be a Silver Sponsor in support of the 2026 Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) Gala Ball “The Fun Fair”. Held at Newcastle Town Hall, Natalie and Nivek attended this very special night with $388,900 raised to support the lifesaving research of this globally renowned health facility 🍸

Garry also attended the Charlie’s Run 4 kids 2026 “Hope & Love Ball” at NEX. $104,397 was raised for the John Hunter Paediatric Oncology Unit at the spectacular Masquerade themed party 🥂🍾

The Hunter region has so many wonderful community organisations and initiatives, well done to all the volunteers, donors, event attendees and ongoing supporters, it’s a privilege to witness and be part of 🥰

It’s been a huge couple of months for the Coast Finance Group team.

Started in August with Garry Green (Best Broker Commercial Loans) & Emilee Stitt (Best Loan Administrator) both nominated as Finalists in the 2025 NSW/ACT AFG Broker Awards. Garry successfully took out the top gong on 18 September 👏🏆

Rolling on, in early October Garry was nominated as a finalist in the Better Business Summit 2025 National Commercial Finance Awards – Awards night in Sydney on 21 November 🎉

Now Coast Finance Group has been nominated as a finalist in the National AFG Finance Awards for Champion Commercial Broker Group 2025. It’s a real tribute to the whole team that we won this Award in 2023 and were also a finalist in 2024 🎉
