Seven world titles. Six in succession. A career that changed Australian surfing. 🏄‍♀️🏆 Layne Beachley’s record-breaking achievements earned the #14 position in our Top 40 Australian Sporting Moments of the past 40 years. Her seventh world title capped an extraordinary career and cemented her place among Australia’s greatest sporting champions. Layne joined us at the MCG to reflect on the journey behind her success and share some of those experiences with our guests. Celebrating 40 years of Sportscover was also about celebrating the people who have shaped Australian sport during those four decades, and it was a privilege to have Layne there with us.

When Olympic gold came down to a final attempt. 🥇 Steve Ho**er’s extraordinary Beijing 2008 performance sits at #18 in our Top 40 Australian Sporting Moments of the past 40 years. With the pressure at its highest, Steve cleared 5.90m on his final attempt to secure Olympic gold, before raising the bar again and clearing 5.96m for a new Olympic record. At the MCG, Steve gave our guests an insight into what was happening behind the scenes and in his mind during those defining moments. It was fantastic to have Steve help us celebrate 40 years of Sportscover by bringing one of Australia’s great Olympic performances back to life.

A gold medal decided with just 1.3 seconds remaining. 🤽‍♀️🥇 Australia’s unforgettable women’s water polo triumph at Sydney 2000 was voted #22 in our Top 40 Australian Sporting Moments. In the first-ever women’s Olympic water polo competition, Australia defeated the USA 4–3 in a dramatic gold medal match in front of a home crowd. Olympic champion Deb Watson helped us relive the occasion at our 40th anniversary celebration, sharing her memories of being part of a team that made Australian sporting history. Hearing those stories first-hand was exactly what we hoped our Top 40 countdown would bring to the night.

Three events. Three gold medals. One incredible Commonwealth Games. 🎳🥇 Cara Honeychurch’s clean sweep at Kuala Lumpur 1998 came in at #33 in our Top 40 Australian Sporting Moments of the past 40 years. Cara won gold in the singles, doubles and teams events, producing one of Australian tenpin bowling’s greatest international performances. At our 40th anniversary celebration, we were lucky enough to have Cara in the room to take us back to 1998 and share the story behind her remarkable achievement. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate not just the moment, but the person who made it happen.

At #34 in our Top 40 Australian Sporting Moments of the past 40 years: Kathy Watt OAM OLY Olympic gold in Barcelona. 🚴🥇 At the 1992 Olympic Games, Kathy produced one of the defining performances in Australian cycling history, breaking away from the field to win the women’s road race and become Australia’s first female Olympic cycling gold medallist. More than three decades later, we had the privilege of hearing the story from Kathy herself as she joined us at the MCG for Sportscover’s 40th anniversary celebration. Having the athletes behind some of these remarkable moments there to share their memories made our Top 40 countdown even more special. Thank you, Kathy, for being part of the night. 💚

40 years of Sportscover, what a night to celebrate. 🥂

This week, we had the privilege of bringing together friends, colleagues, clients, partners and members of the sporting community to celebrate an incredible milestone, Sportscover’s 40th anniversary.

For four decades, sport has been at the heart of what we do, so it was particularly special to hear from some remarkable Australian sporting champions who joined us for the evening.

A huge thank you to Steven Bradbury, Layne Beachley, Cara Honeychurch, Steve Ho**er, Kathy Watt and Deb Watson for sharing their stories, memories and experiences with us and helping make the night one to remember.

And, of course, thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate. We’re incredibly grateful to the many people who have been part of the Sportscover journey over the past 40 years, our people, clients, partners and the wider sporting community.

We’re proud of where we’ve come from, grateful for everyone who has been part of the story, and excited for what comes next.

Proud to have Sportscover recognised as a finalist in two categories at the ANZIIF Australian Insurance Industry Awards 🏆

Sportscover was named a finalist for Small-Medium Underwriting Agency of the Year and Claims Team of the Year; fantastic recognition of the hard work and commitment of our teams.

Our Head of Claims, Francis, and Sydney Senior Underwriter, John, were there to represent Sportscover and enjoy a great evening with colleagues from across the insurance industry.

Congratulations to all the winners and finalists, and thank you to ANZIIF for bringing the industry together to celebrate the people and teams behind it.

🥇 History made on the greens

Australia's lawn bowls campaign at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games finished in unforgettable fashion, with Louise Hoskins and Serena Bonnell claiming gold in the Para Women's Pairs B6–B8.

The victory was made even more remarkable as 76-year-old Louise Hoskins became the oldest Commonwealth Games gold medallist in history, proving that determination, resilience and passion for sport know no age.

Together, Louise and Serena delivered a memorable performance to cap off a fantastic Games for the Australian Jackaroos and add another golden chapter to Australia's proud lawn bowls legacy.

An inspiring achievement and a reminder that history can be made at any stage of life. Congratulations to Louise, Serena and the entire Australian lawn bowls team. 💚💛
