The most beautiful thing I've found over the years of working with countless newborns, is that they are already so perfectly themselves. At 5-14 days of age, their personality and nature is already showing through in everything they do.

This gorgeous little man was the most awake and alert bub I've ever had visit me. Despite hours of my very best tricks and persuasion he fought sleep with every ounce of his being. And I know these parents in 2-3 years will look back and remember he was determined and strong and knew his own mind from the very start, and his newborn photos will reflect that.

This week is my last week of full time shoots with newborns and I will miss their little quirks with my whole heart.

These boys are the same age as my kids, and I can't really describe the exquisiteness yet poignancy of this age.

They're right on the cusp of being 'big people', so you spend a lot of time savoring little things, just in case it the last time. The last time their head will fit under your chin, or the last time you can pick them up.

These moments are the reason I became a photographer. So I could literally capture them, like an butterfly in a jar, an ephemeral, perfect, moment in time to put on your wall to bring you joy each and every day.

As hard as it has been running a small business the past couple of years, I never lose sight of how honoured I am to be entrusted with your tiny babies. I am so aware of the gift it is to be handed your brand new bubba for a couple of hours, and I will never stop counting my blessings.

This little ray of sunshine came to visit this morning for her first birthday cake smash with a Greenhouse theme.
Her Mum and Dad made her cake and brought it along, and it was so special to capture her first taste of cake!

She was just the cutest and smiled the biggest when she was doing something just a little bit cheeky.

This little man had recently started daycare, so was very shy and had separation anxiety.

If this is your baby, don't worry. All cake smash sessions have enough time built in to move very slowly and let them get used to me. And parents can always stay close by at all times.

By the end of the session we were besties.

What a cutie!!!
