Who is actually price gauging regarding fuel? Many suspect fuel companies. Possibly correct. But they are not on their own. Let’s talk about tax…read on.

People are saying the Federal Government should reduce or cut the fuel excise tax (52.6 cents per litre). Fair enough. But most people ignore GST which is charged on the sale price.

Let me go through some sums, using diesel as an example. At $1.90 per litre, the government was receiving 17.27 cents per litre in GST. Now at $3.00 per litre, they are pocketing 27.27 cents per litre. Yes, the government is receiving MORE tax revenue as a result of the current fuel crisis.

There is an immmdiate way the Federal Government could assist, and that is promising not to profit off the current environment and instead pass on this saving to the end consumer. They will be no worse off, but will help. And of course, the fuel excise could be reduced.

Just some thoughts and observations.

There is ALOT of price gouging happening at the pump. YES, the price of oil has gone up, however the petrol you are buying today was bought by the servo PRIOR to the price of oil increase. Do yourself a favour, and use a free app like PetrolSpy or something similar to find a deal nearby (aka a servo who is not going to rob you). I saved about 40 cents a litre this morning. That's $20 in my pocket by taking 1 minute to have a look around.

I know this is behind The Australian's paywall, however here are the latest figures on how much it is considered is required for a comfortable retirement. Two important caveats, this assumes one has no Estate Planning wishes other than their own home, and also assumes you believe $77k per annum in retirement equates to a 'Comfortable Retirement'. Either or both of which may not be the case! If you would like tailored Retirement Modelling, please do send us a Message to get the process underway.

A comfortable retirement now costs tens of thousands of dollars more after a leading industry body lifted its estimate for the first time in three years.

We had also suspected the number of people managing to successfully qualify for ‘bonus interest’ was high. The figures are out. Shame!
Big four banks slammed over ‘deposit deception’

The major banks are facing calls to be transparent about how few customers are earning the advertised bonus interest rate on their deposit accounts, as new evidence reveals as many as two in three savers are missing out.

$10,000 into $214,332 over 30 years...that is if you invested it in the US Shares Index, and compounded the returns. I know there is a lot of excitement about Residential Property over recent years, however the US Shares Index isn't too shabby!!!!! Of course, past returns are not a reliable indicator of future performance potential etc etc etc.

We've upgraded our app with new security features, specifically real-time messages and account lock features.

This means you'll now be alerted when important changes are made to your account, such as lodging your tax return or updating your bank details. If you're alerted to anything you or your tax agent didn't do, you can lock your account from in the app.

These enhancements will help shield your data, but only if you enable push notifications!
