If someone in your house rides an e-bike, 31 August is a date worth knowing.
Queensland's ne w e-bike rules start next Monday, and they change who is allowed to ride:
→ Under 12 — not permitted → 12–15 — only with a supervising adult (Incl. 16+17 with out a licence) → 16+ — at least a learner permit
The bike matters too. 250W maximum continuous power, motor assistance cutting out at 25 km/h, pedal-assist only. Throttle-only and de-restricted bikes stay illegal, and EN 15194 compliance labelling is required by 28 February 2027.
The penalties are real. $518 is the standard fine, and parents can be fined if their under-16 rides illegally. Speeding penalties climb higher again, and random breath testing now applies to riders.
