Long weekend, school holidays, and the last weekend of Tulip Time all landing at once. It's going to be absolutely heaving out here. And honestly, good.
Corbett Gardens wraps up Monday the 5th, with extended hours over the long weekend. If you've been meaning to get there and haven't, this is it. But this one's really for the parents in week two who've run out of ideas and money at about the same rate.
7 free things to do out here this weekend. All free, all local.
1. Leighton Gardens, Moss Vale. Tulips, no ticket, no queue. Last weekend so they're past their best, but it's free and it's five minutes from the shops.
2. Bowral Lookout, up on the Gib. Open all hours, whole town laid out underneath you. Tip: Go at sunset.
3. Berrima River Walk. Flat, easy, free. There are signs along the way about the German internees who lived on that riverbank during the First World War. Extraordinary bit of local history that most people have never heard.
4. Lake Alexandra, Mittagong. Playground, barbecues, toilets and ducklings. Costs nothing and will buy you two hours.
5. The Big Potato, Robertson. Ten minutes, one photo, and the Babe mural is worth the stop on its own. Free, obviously. It's a potato.
6. Grand Canyon Lookout, Bundanoon. Bit of a drive, but the view does all the work for you.
7. Moss Vale Library. Saturday morning only this weekend, 9 till 12, because of the public holiday. Free, warm, and somebody else's problem for an hour.
