It’s funny how school feels like it was only yesterday… until you realise just how many years it’s actually been.
The classrooms might have changed, the haircuts definitely have, and I’m pretty sure none of us had any idea what we were going to do with our lives back then.
I’ve really enjoyed getting back involved with South Oakleigh College and reconnecting with the school community.
What I didn’t expect was how much being connected with the school again would actually help me personally and professionally. Through the education, mentoring and networking opportunities, I’ve met some great people, had some really good conversations and made connections that have genuinely helped me grow my small business.
You never really know where one conversation might lead. Sometimes one connection can make all the difference. Whether it’s a new idea, a bit of advice, an introduction, or simply meeting someone who sees things from a different perspective.
And I think that’s one of the great things about a school community. You might leave school, get busy with life, work, family and everything else, but the connections don’t necessarily disappear.
So I’m really looking forward to the upcoming South Oakleigh College Alumni Reunion Night.
If you went to South Oakleigh — whatever year you finished — come along. It’ll be a chance to catch up with old mates, share a few “remember when…” stories, see how much everyone has changed, and meet some new faces along the way.
Who knows… you might even leave with a new connection that makes all the difference.
Would be great to see some familiar faces there!
