The Fair Work commission has announced a 5.2% increase to national minimum wages and a 4.6% increase to minimum award wages, most changes to begin on the first full pay period on or after 1 July. Link in bio.

We had the pleasure of interviewing our first virtual WorkLife member, Carly Vanderburg for our latest member profile. ⁠

From a young age, Carly always wanted to run her own business and be a successful career woman. Her first business was a pet care business at the age of 8, her favourite part of business was counting the money and scheduling the work. From a young age she helped her mother, who owned a successful bookkeeping firm, with bookkeeping tasks.⁠

Carly previously worked in the banking industry which was predominantly focussed on lending and sales. She enjoyed her work at the bank but found her match as a bookkeeper and BAS agent. Vander Books provides Bookkeeping and BAS agent services for the Shoalhaven and South Coast, as well as remotely Australia wide. They take care of financial reporting with knowledge, efficiency, and precision, allowing business owners to put their time and skills back into their business.⁠

Update to compassionate leave entitlements.

Recently, compassionate leave was expanded to include miscarriage. So if you or your current spouse or de facto partner has a miscarriage, you’re entitled to 2 days compassionate leave.

You’re also entitled to 2 days of compassionate leave if a member of your immediate family or household suffers a life-threatening illness or injury or passes away: https://www.fairwork.gov.au/leave/compassionate-and-bereavement-leave

Compassionate leave is available to all employees. It doesn’t accrue and you get 2 days on each occasion it applies (there is no maximum number of times you can access it in a year).

It can be taken as a single period, 2 separate days, or in any periods that the employee and employer agree on.

Full-time and part-time employees get 2 days paid compassionate leave. For casuals, it’s unpaid.
