How much do you need to retire in Australia if you WON’T get the Age Pension? Estimates versus TRUTH!

ESTIMATES - If you’re planning to fully self-fund your retirement, here’s what you’ll need for a comfortable lifestyle (based on Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia estimates):

👩‍❤️‍👨 Couple: ~$1.1 million
👤 Single: ~$950,000

✅ This assumes:
• You own your home
• You want to live comfortably (think: occasional travel, dining out, hobbies).

TRUTH - Having worked with hundreds of people leading up to and through their retirement. I believe estimates are quite worthless.

Why? Because I have never seen someone live the identical retirement. To make YOUR retirement what you want it to be for YOU, there are so many variables to factor in.

✅ Retirement Age.
✅ Retiring fully or part or still generating some form of income, even from a passion job/consulting.
✅ The type of car you drive, what other toys you have (boat, caravan, holiday home) local versus international travel, economy versus business class seats, eat at home versus eat out...so many lifestyle differences that need to be allowed for as either lesser or greater expenditure.
✅ Staying in the family home or downsizing?
✅ Supporting kids and grandkids or not.

And so much more. So to truly plan for, secure and enjoy your ideal retirement, ensure you factor in your specific dream retirement goals and needs. Estimates do not allow for YOUR plan, they are just generic. No point getting there and then you can't live with freedom and fun. Nobody wants that!

Hey, what's up? Yeah that's right, I'm feeling good. I'm feeling chill.

Why? Because about 20 years ago I answered the most important question about retirement.

I worked out how much I would need to have a comfortable, fun, secure, adventurous and worry free retirement.

It wasn't that hard and it set me up to know what I was aiming for and to work out the best strategies and investment that would get me there.

You should do it too, then you can be all chill and shirt off and shades on like me.

What is the biggest benefit of effective retirement planning?

A GREAT NIGHTS SLEEP!

When our dog Lenny was a puppy (and even now at age two) it blew me away how much he slept, but also how calm and relaxed he seemed when he was sleeping. It's a goooood deeeeeep sleeeeep!

For humans, unfortunately many things can get in the way of a great nights sleep and we all know the negative side effects that can flow from that.

It would be fair to say that humans who sleep well, are likely to be far happier, successful and content in life, than those who may be lying awake due to stresses or other concerns.

This is one of the best reasons to have an effective retirement planning strategy in place.

In the lead up to retirement, you will be feeling calmer, on track and excited about when you can retire. You will know you have a secure and great lifestyle ahead, without worrying about running out of money.

During retirement, you will sleep well because the plan, structure, investments, superannuation and overall financial make up are all sorted. The daily news, market shifts or next big change in the world will not impact you and you will sleep deeply and calmly every night. Waking refreshed and ready to enjoy a great life you have worked hard for.

So remember, the benefits of sound retirement planning are not just financial, but so much more!

Step 1 - Letting everything just swirl around in your head will get you nowhere, so get it out of there.

Step 2 - The only way forward is through. Often we put things off because we feel it may be hard work or challenging. But taking action will make it happen.

Step 3 - Creating the motivation & inspiration: Move into a positive mindset by visualising and documenting the things you want for your life and money.

Step 4 - Follow a structured and effective process to make sure it happens, is efficient and you are accountable to it. Refer to example in image, this takes you from the negatives on the left to the positives on the right.
