FOR 41 years, Grampians Insurance Brokers has been working to deliver competitive insurance policies for local clients.
The business was started by local identities Roy Marshall and John McDougall in 1979, and has has gone from strength to strength, opening a Stawell office in 2013 and acquiring Barham Insurance in 2017.
Director David Hosking said the business was established to provide a service to the local community.
“Roy was an old Commercial Union Insurance guy and John was a local farmer and they decided Ararat needed a professional insurance business, particularly a broker that acted for the client not the insurance companies,” he said.
Grampians Insurance Brokers employs eleven people in Ararat and Stawell, and Mr Hosking said the business could provide policies for most situations.
“Business is good. We’ve developed a niche in the caravan park industry so we insure a lot of caravan parks and that’s worked really well for us. At the moment in Australia, there are two main insurers of caravan parks and we’re one of them,” he said.
Mr Hosking was quick to point out that everyday insurance policies remain a core part of the business like home, business, car and contents insurance.
“There’s not much that we don’t do. The great thing about being a country insurance broker is you get to do a bit or everything,” he said.
“We’re part of what’s called Steadfast which, for want of a better term, is like a buying group. So hard to place policies, we go to them. We’re a locally owned and operated business but we’re part of something that’s pretty big,” Mr Hosking said.
“The key message is, we act for you as the purchaser of an insurance product, not the insurer,”
“We get fantastic support from the local community and we like to think we have good relationships with our clients,” he said.
Mr Hosking said Grampians Insurance Brokers will work to deliver the best and most cost effective policy for clients.
“We’ll have a look at what’s important for you, what are the things you really want covered because everybody if different and every customer has different needs,” Mr Hosking said.
