Did you know that superannuation doesn’t always form part of your estate the same way as some other assets?

How your benefit is paid may depend on your fund rules, your nomination, and whether it’s valid at the time. That’s why it can be worth checking...
👉 Who have you nominated?
👉 Is it binding or non-binding?
👉 Does it need renewing?

Life changes quickly, and marriage, separation, children, blended families or changing responsibilities can all shift what feels right.

Reviewing your nomination is a simple step that may help reduce stress for the people you care about.

If your super nomination needs to be updated, our team's here to help. Learn more about us here 🔗 https://www.soundlife.com.au/about-us?utm_source=Social+Network&utm_campaign=June_2026&utm_medium=organic_social

One of the most common estate planning mistakes is assuming that because something was set up properly once, it's still fit for purpose.

Life moves quickly. Relationships change. Assets grow. Business structures evolve. Family dynamics shift.

An estate plan that was well-constructed five years ago may no longer reflect your current wishes, your asset base, or the people you want to provide for.

And the consequences of an outdated plan aren't felt by you - they're felt by the people you leave it to.

A review doesn't mean starting from scratch. Often it's straightforward - confirming beneficiary nominations are current, checking that trusts still function as intended, and ensuring your overall structure is still aligned with your goals.

If your circumstances have changed, your estate plan probably needs a look.

The most important retirement question isn't "when can I retire?"

It's "what does the life I want to retire into actually cost, and am I building toward that specifically?"

Travel, time with family, health, philanthropy, pursuing projects that matter - these aren't afterthoughts. They're the whole point. And they have a number attached to them.

The most financially prepared retirees we work with aren't just the ones with the largest portfolios. They're the ones who got clear early about what they were building for - and structured their strategy around that clarity.

You can have strong income, assets, and opportunity yet still not know what to do next.

That’s usually not a money problem. It’s a planning problem.

A financial plan helps turn resources into direction, so you know what matters, what needs attention now, and how everything fits together. This can include retirement, super, investments, estate planning, family support, business interests, and lifestyle goals.

Clarity reduces second-guessing and makes decisions simpler.

A lot of financial progress comes down to sequencing.

Getting the order right, so each decision builds on the last rather than competing with it.

For some clients, that means maximising super contributions before other investments. For others, it's about restructuring debt, protecting income, or building investment positions in the right sequence for tax efficiency.

There's no universal order. But there is a right order for your situation.

⏰ What should happen now?
⏰ What can wait?
⏰ What are you currently doing that might be working against you?

Getting clear on these questions is often where the most significant progress happens.

Let's help you identify your next best financial move 🔗 https://www.soundlife.com.au/contact?utm_source=Social+Network&utm_campaign=May_2026&utm_medium=organic_social

There’s something special about coming together as a community to celebrate dedication, resilience, and local talent.

The Sound Life team attended the Wellington & Reeves Albany Sportsperson of the Year Awards last month, alongside so many talented local athletes, families, and supporters from across the region.

As proud sponsors of the Sound Life Masters Sportsperson of the Year, we were thrilled to see Tanya Bailey recognised for her outstanding achievements in mountain biking - a well-deserved result 🏅

The evening was full of inspiring stories, community spirit, and a genuine celebration of the dedication that goes into sport at every level. We also loved hearing from guest speaker Peter Bol, whose journey and perspective left a lasting impression on everyone in the room.

Congratulations to all nominees and award recipients - it was a memorable night for our Albany team - Thelma, Tania, Amanda and Tammy - and a privilege to be part of.

Aged care planning is one of those conversations most families put off - until they can't.

And that's exactly when it's hardest.

The decisions involved aren't just financial, though the financial implications are significant. Costs, asset assessment, pension impacts, and family dynamics all intersect in ways that can be difficult to untangle under pressure.

Starting the conversation early - before a decision is urgent - gives families the space to understand their options, model the costs, and put a clear plan in place that reflects everyone's wishes.

It's one of the most meaningful areas of advice we work through with clients.

Like many people, Kylie and her husband were just busy getting on with life - in their case, running a business.

They’d done some big-picture planning, but hadn’t really dug into the details around specific risks or gaps in their cover.

Working with Thelma, they took a closer look and uncovered areas they hadn’t fully considered - particularly around insurance. That process led them to better understand trauma insurance and include it in their overall plan.

Just 11 months later, Kylie received a melanoma diagnosis, completely overturning their lives.

Their story was an important reminder of how quickly life can change. And how a small step now can make a big difference later.
