Hey Albo, you could have saved $20m by just sharing my post!
Fuel prices aren't going down any time soon so here are some simple tips to save a few dollars without having to remove your roof racks:
⛽ 1. Hold onto your shopping dockets
Many supermarkets offer fuel discounts (e.g. 4–10c per litre). Stack them up and use them strategically when prices spike.
📱 2. Check fuel apps before you fill up
Apps like FuelCheck, PetrolSpy, or your state’s fuel price checker can show the cheapest stations nearby in real time. Prices can vary massively within just a few kilometres.
📅 3. Fill up on the right day
Fuel prices tend to follow a weekly cycle. In many areas, prices are lowest early in the week (Mon–Tue) and rise toward the weekend. Learn your local pattern and plan ahead.
🚗 4. Drive smarter, not harder
• Accelerate smoothly (no sudden take-offs)
• Keep a steady speed
• Avoid excessive idling
• Use cruise control on highways
These small habits can noticeably reduce fuel consumption.
🛠️ 5. Keep your car in shape
Under-inflated tyres, dirty air filters, and poor servicing all increase fuel usage. A well-maintained car is a more efficient one.
🧠 6. Combine trips
Instead of multiple short drives, plan your errands in one go. Cold starts burn more fuel, so fewer trips = better efficiency.
Saving on petrol isn’t about one big change — it’s about stacking small wins. Over time, it adds up. 🚗⛽📈
