There was some positive news overnight as many of the company giants revealed solid profits.

Alphabet and Adidas headed the list with bumper results. Apple was the story of the week with the new CEO just appointed. The company is predicting its iPhone sales will increase by 20% for the year when its results come out today.

Unfortunately, over a month since hostilities erupted between The U.S. Israel and Iran, we are seemingly no closer to an ending to the war.

Having spoken to some credit and stock analysts over the past week, the views are quite similar. Underlying economies and the companies which make up the share market are robust and profitable.

The Middle East erupted in conflict over the weekend of 28 February following joint US-Israel air and missile strikes on Iran. In response, Iran fired missiles at a clutch of neighbouring countries including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Israel, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Oman, and Iraq, as well as Cyprus, which hosts British forces.

Global markets surge on rate cut and positive outlook for 2026
As expected, the U.S central bank cut the cash rate by a quarter of a percent overnight our time but it was strong production data and positive signs for the coming year which sent investors flooding back into stocks with the U.S benchmark rising by 1.3%.

All the scaremongering and headlines suggesting a tech rout unsurprisingly have amounted to nothing.

As expected by expert analysts, the world’s biggest company and the leader of the technological advances which affect all companies reported a monster profit which exceeded expectations and left investors breathing a sigh of relief.

Where to begin? World markets rose overnight after all indices fell earlier in the week barring the U.K. There are numerous reasons as to why we are seeing extreme volatility at the moment and none of them are new. The ongoing trade uncertainty, rising inflation and commodity prices (look at gold and silver!!) rate uncertainty, the concern we are in a tech bubble and so on. The last of these has been the most topical issue recently.

Global markets have been up and down over the past fortnight with the end result being about square. Employment figures have steadied and economic indicators including price indices still show enough to suggest another rate cut in the U.S. this month. A slew of data was supposed to be released this week but has been delayed by the shutdown.

The federal government in the U.S. has stumbled again; this time in a major way. It is hamstrung with the Republicans and Democrats at loggerheads. What this means is that non-essential government employees (use that term however you want) will be on leave and non critical spending will be on hold until an agreement is reached with an extension of healthcare benefits being the sticking point.
