After spending 20 years as investors with several properties each we grew sick and tired of property managers simply not doing their job (and giving the same old excuses all the time). We recently challenged our followers to identify this iconic Adelaide road from a historic photograph... and the answer is Henley Beach Road!

This incredible State Library of South Australia photograph has pride of place on the wall in our Jump Property office. It captures Henley Beach Road in the early 20th century, when electric trams, horse-drawn carts and local businesses like Ackland's were part of everyday Adelaide life.

We love having a piece of Adelaide's history in our workspace, and it's always a great conversation starter!

It's amazing to see just how much our city has changed over the years while some places remain instantly recognisable.

Are your locks Compliant or Non-Compliant?
Landlords are asking the same question right now, which locks actually meet compliance standards?

With so much conflicting information circulating, Jump Property went directly to the Housing Safety Authority to get clarity for our landlords.

Here’s the key requirement under the Housing Improvement Regulations:
✅ External doors must:
• Lock/unlock with a key from the outside
• Unlock from the inside without a key

If a lock requires a key to exit the property from inside, it may be considered non-compliant. This includes some older deadlocks and sliding door locks.
Even screen doors with locks must comply separately.

Why does this matter?

A non-compliant property could expose landlords to:
⚠️ Breaches of minimum housing standards
⚠️ Potential liability issues if a tenant cannot safely exit in an emergency
⚠️ Insurance complications or disputes
⚠️Potential loss of income

The Housing Safety Authority fact sheet also provides examples of what is and isn’t compliant including sliding doors, screen doors, apartment entries and granny flats.
