Is the future of Aussie Homes.. less walls?
New research has indicated that 2020 circumstances have accelerated a move to more sustainable housing.
This research suggests that houses will soon become likely to be an open-plan structure filled with rocks, plants, recycled building materials and second-hand furniture.
The idea to make the garden like an extra room within the home. The findings were revealed in an extensive study by Allianz, UTS and horticulturalist Jamie Durie.
The report by Future Of Living, explored the size, materials and technical innovations likely to define the way we live, concluding that Aussies priorities have shifted to sustainability and financial efficiency within the home.
Energy efficiency will be a main focus, with solar panels installed and recycled timbers used in place of brick, where applicable.
“We’re moving away from the McMansion,” he said. “The whole COVID-19 experience has taught people to be more frugal and do more with the space we have. Bigger isn’t better.”
“Re-using old furniture used to be considered just a hippie sport 10 years ago but now even executives are doing it,” Mr Durie said.
