π° Is your offset account actually saving you money?
A recent ASIC review found that some Australian borrowers were paying more interest than they should have because their offset accounts were not set up or linked correctly. Banks have already paid more than $55 million in compensation, with ASIC expecting further remediation.
If you have an offset account, take a few minutes to check:
β
Is your offset account linked to your home loan?
β
Is it reducing the interest charged on your loan?
β
Are you receiving the benefit you're expecting?
A simple setup issue could mean you're paying more interest than necessary.
If you're unsure, contact your lender or your mortgage broker and ask them to confirm your offset account is linked correctly and operating as intended.
If you're one of my clients, I'm happy to help you check your loan setup and answer any questions.

Not all home loans include an offset account, and offset features vary between lenders.
