Education is the foundation of a green future.
New UNESCO data shows that 96,000 schools in 93 countries have adopted green practices with the support of the Greening Education Partnership (GEP) โ embedding sustainability into learning, school operations, and community life.
At COP30 in Belรฉm, Brazil, UNESCO is championing education for climate action, highlighting the crucial role of learning in addressing the climate crisis. The Organization is hosting two flagship events: a Ministerial Roundtable on Greening Education and the 3rd Annual Meeting of the Greening Education Partnership (GEP). They will gather ministers, educators, youth, civil society and other partners to accelerate the transition toward green schools worldwide.
To turn global commitments into practical action, UNESCO will also launch key resources: the GEP Dashboard, and the publications โEducators at the heart of greening education: a climate resilience toolkit for policymakersโ, โGreening communities guidanceโ and โSustainable school building guidanceโ.
UNESCO is urging governments and the education sector to intensify efforts to integrate environmental learning across all curricula, and to reach the goal of making half of all schools in every country green by 2030: https://shorturl.at/1PFY9
