Surpiel SA

Surpiel SA Member of the International Leather Split Group-Ware. Languages: Español, Italiano, English.

Established in 1994, Surpiel started its' activities concentrating in the area of greatest expertise of its management which was the industrialization and marketing of bovine WETBLUE SPLITS (WB). Based on the exceptional worldwide network of partners, agents and representatives that Surpiel SA had at its disposal as member of the International Leather Split Group-Ware, it could offer the Argentine

market a totally new system of commercializing WB splits. The Argentine leather industry traditionally sorted, trimmed, cut into croupons and prepared for exports their split productions individually, each tannery having their own split department. Surpiel started to offer the tanners a new manner of commercializing their splits, based on their sale to Surpiel of the entire daily or weekly production as they emerged from their splitting machines (drops) without sorting, trimming and uncrouponed, with a significant staff reduction, more free space in their warehouses, avoiding stocks accumulation due to lack of orders, letters of credit, boat arrivals and very importantly guarantees the tanner a considerable reduction of his collection terms of split sales. This new system, unknown in Argentina, allowed Surpiel to grow rapidly and to become very fast the largest splits trader in Argentina, all of this based on the very important cattle breeding and tanning infrastructure existent in the country. Argentina, with its 55 million heads of cattle and an annual slaughter of 13/14 million heads, is without a doubt one of the most important centers of production for bovine leather in the world. This was the main reason for situating Surpiel in Buenos Aires, especially having in mind that the all of the annual 13/14 million hides are tanned locally with a big concentration around the city of Buenos Aires.

ITALY

According to AIMPES, the Italian national association of leather goods manufacturers, the turnover of this segment increased 10% in 2013, reaching 4.6 billion Euro. It seems that most of this success is due to the export; the domestic market in Italy has in fact showed a 5% decrease and it’s now smaller than in 2009. The association warned that manufacturers who export less than 60-70% of their production could fine themselves in serious troubles shortly.

PAKISTAN

The Pakistani Federal Board of Revenue wants to increase sales tax on raw materials destined to the export from the current 2% to an unprecedented 17% in order to build up again the foreign currencies reserves, but the PTA doesn’t agree. The Chairman of the Pakistan Tanners Association, Mr Sheikh Saqib Masood, said in fact that the leather sector exports have already declined for the last six fiscal years from 1.22 bln USD in 2007/08 to 1.01 bln USD in 2012-13. “Energy crisis, impact of war on terror, law and order situation all affects our costs of doing business, making us loosing ground against other countries. The FBR should introduce friendly policies so to increase exports and consequently the revenues collected. The country gets foreign exchange and people keep their jobs, while a sales tax increase would give birth to under-invoicing and corruption practices”.
