La Riojana Co-op

La Riojana Co-op We are a co-op with 500 families of farmers, passionate about making good quality wines since 1940 Sustainability

Sustainability is the capacity to endure.

About Us
Our Co-operative

Our co-operative currently has over 500 members, the majority of whom are small-scale producers with less than three hectares of land given to grape production and come from across the La Rioja province. Many of our members are the children of former co-operative members and therefore are continuing the family tradition of producing grapes for the co-operative. Being par

t of a co-operative means that our individual members are entitled to a certain number of benefits and services including the guaranteed purchase of grapes at higher prices, transportation of grapes from the vineyard to the co-operative, access to credits, distribution of profits, free technical assistance, purchase of large quantities of diesel, fertilizers etc to keep down the prices, collective frost insurance, a policy of one member, one vote regardless of their size of production, a sports club and recreational activities as well as an access to an emergency fund. Since receiving Fairtrade certification in 2006, our co-operative members and workers together with their families have started to benefit from the Fairtrade projects which are being developed for the local communities, such as the Tilimuqui Water Project and the Tilimuqui School Project. For humans it is the potential for long-term maintenance of wellbeing, which in turn depends on the wellbeing of the natural world and the responsible use of natural resources. At La Riojana, we are committed to caring for the environment and to reducing our carbon footprint, and we are therefore working hard to promote and encourage sustainable practices within the winery, our vineyards and with our growers. As proof of this commitment, we have carried out a carbon footprint audit, the preliminary results of which show that the carbon footprint caused by production is relatively low compared with figures reported for wineries in Europe and Australia. We are also one of the first wineries in Argentina to implement a carbon neutral programme for the whole process of grape to bottled wine. This process includes the vineyards, water management, materials used by the winery and transport. We have also started to offset carbon emissions for our exported wines, specifically to Sweden and we are working to include other countries. Our overall goal is to become "carbon negative" which can be achieved once the carbon neutral projects are implemented, and in turn this will contribute to the sustainability of our growers and the winery. As an illustration of our commitment to caring for the environment, we were listed as one of the "Green top 50" drinks firms in the world by the UK's drinks title, The Drinks Business in their January 2009 edition. Our Philosophy

At La Riojana, we hold good ethical practice as a core value and since our establishment in 1940 we have remained strongly committed to a fair philosophy. We produce and commercialize products (including sparkling wines, wines, grape juice, must and olive oil) that meet with international quality standards, with the aim to satisfy both the needs of our clients and the demands of the national and international market. We remain totally committed to co-operative principles, by providing integral support to our individual members, producing and commercialising their production, and allowing an adequate return for their raw material. This in turn promotes the development of human capital, in alignment with the principles and philosophy of Fairtrade. RIOJANA WINES program
Our co-op will Launch this product in all the food co-ops in the United State in October 2015, and working together "co-op to co-op", the consumers will find the wines as a great value, while still paying the fair-trade premium to the farmer. La Riojana wines will arrive this fall at US. The Malbec offers lots of dark fruit, subtle complexities, and a smooth round finish. The Chardonnay, Cabernet, and Malbec blend are all of high quality and taste.

Behind every bottle, there is so much more than wine.🍷

There are hands that work the land, people who make everything possible, and communities that continue to grow.🍷

Fairtrade represents a commitment to doing things the right way.

Today we celebrate World Fairtrade Day💪🏽🌎
Because choosing differently truly makes a difference.

From the grape to the glass, Malbec shows its nobility in every detail. Its deep colour, unique aroma, and silky texture remind us why this great fruit represents us. 🌎

Every sip honours the land, the effort, and the passion of those who cultivate it. 🍷
Malbec, pride of our land.🍇

Some stories begin in the land and become something more.
Malbec is far more than a wine: it’s identity, it’s work, it’s community.🫱🏽‍🫲🏾

In every grape, every harvest, and every glass,
lives the dedication of those who cultivate it
and the commitment to doing things the right way.🍇

From our vineyards in La Rioja,
we bring to the world a Malbec that represents us: intense, well-balanced, and full of character. 🍷
Today we celebrate our signature variety,
a true reflection of our land and our people.

Happy Malbec Day 🌱

From the Southern Village Wine Fair, our wines continue to travel beyond borders, carrying far more than flavour. 🍷

Every bottle that reaches a new table also tells a story of community, dedication, and origin.🌎

Thank you Walter Carol for representing us.

09/04/2026

April is a special month for us.🍷

A time to highlight everything behind each bottle.
From the land to the table, from teamwork to shared moments, Malbec connects us to our origin and to those who enjoy it around the world.🌎

A varietal that represents us, expressing our identity and a way of making wine rooted in collaboration.
Once again, we celebrate Malbec Month.🍇

We celebrate its history, its present, and everything that brings us together through it.

“With our hearts in our hands, and giving thanks to the Lord and to everyone, another year is done. Mission accomplished.”
This is how those who are part of this journey feel, the people who work the land, who wait for the harvest, who give their strength and their hope to every season.🍷

The last day of harvest is not just the end of a cycle. It is the result of months of hard work, shared effort and a community moving forward together. 🫱🏽‍🫲🏼

And when the harvest ends, the most important part begins: the moment when all that work becomes wine, and that wine begins its journey to carry our story, our land and our people to the world.🌎

Because behind every bottle, there are people. And behind every completed harvest, there is a dream that keeps growing.

🌎Fairtrade is not just a certification. It is a global community working to create better opportunities for producers and their communities.

We were proud to be part of Globalfest, the annual fundraising event organised by Chicago Fair Trade, where organisations, companies and supporters of Fair Trade come together to create real impact.🤝🏾

The event was a great success, and we were delighted to hear that La Riojana wines were very well received throughout the evening.

Being part of Fair Trade means being part of something bigger: a network that believes in fairness, sustainability and the power of collective work.🍷

At La Riojana, we believe that making organic wine is a form of respect.🍷

Respect for the land, its natural rhythms, and everything that allows a grape to grow in harmony with nature.
Organic farming means caring for the soil, preserving biodiversity and working in balance with the environment.🗻

It is a conscious choice that defines how we produce and who we are as a cooperative.
Because when the land is well cared for, the wine is too.
