A stablecoin is a that represents the value of a fiat currency in terms of , and can be any other (e.g. gold or fiat currencies). usually are covered by assets with low volatility to remain stable.

Most of them track fiat currencies, such as the euro or the U.S. dollar. This makes them relatively stable in value compared to other . Investors can store their funds stable in the opposite of the high volatility of the crypto market.

There are 3 main ways in which stablecoins can be covered and which measure their quality and safety. It should have less as possible differences from the original currency, like for example shall have the equivalence of 1 $.

First they are covered by physical assets like gold, Fiat or other assets. The advantage is the reduced volatility of the stablecoin.

Secondly, they can be covered by other cryptocurrencies, which makes them more , but also more volatile on the other hand. In this case, there must be more assets in cryptocurrency to stabilize the volatility.

Thirdly they can have an that can maintain the equivalence of the related fiat currency. The algorithm is automated and stabilizes the rate. For example, if the value is above 1 USD the algorithm pushes more on the market so it turns back to 1 USD
