Headsets911 Headsets911 The Problem? Dispatcher Retention. The Cause - Dispatcher Stress! The Good News? We can Help! Overtime expenditure is real a problem for many Agencies.

According to recent statistics, job-related stress burnout causes more 911 dispatchers to quit the position than any other cause! In fact, the average dispatcher only remains on the job a mere two- years. This can be an incredible waste of training time and money when you consider how much money it takes to recruit and train a dispatcher. These statistics are directly related in many ways to loss time due to chronic job stress.

RIP to CO III Nikima Thompason.

Sheriff Gregory Tony and the men and women of the Broward Sheriff’s Office are immensely saddened by the passing of Communications Operator III Nikima Thompson. Nikima, 41, had been hospitalized and battling COVID-19 for several weeks after testing positive on April 2. It is believed Thompson is the first communications operator to die in the line of duty in Florida.

“Nikima is a long standing veteran of our team, and she is loved by so many who have had the pleasure of working alongside her,” said Director Angela Mize from the BSO Regional Communications Division.

Nikima, a Florida native, was born in Miami and graduated from Miami Norland Senior High School in 1996. She joined BSO in September 2003 as a communications operator I. She was promoted to communications operator II in February 2005 and to communications operator III in July 2006. Nikima was assigned to the North Regional Communications Center in Coconut Creek. Her last day in the center was March 26.

Join us in keeping Nikima’s family, friends and BSO family in your thoughts and prayers.

Man alive. Close quarters, can't keep distance. When I dispatched one flu could spread like wildfire. This is awful and likely affecting other centers in one way or another just as it's affected other first responders.

Authorities say 28 Broward Sheriff's Office employees have tested positive for COVID-19. A number of those cases have come from dispatch centers — 911 operators and communications controllers.
