A worked example can give your child somewhere to begin when a maths method feels unfamiliar.

An Institute of Education Sciences practice guide recommends alternating between studying a solved example and trying a similar problem independently.

One thing to try at home: find a worked example from your child’s classwork and look through its steps together. Then invite your child to attempt one similar question. Compare the steps and revisit any sticking point, using the method they are learning at school.

As understanding grows, gradually reduce the worked-example support and give them more of the problem to tackle independently.

Save this for your next maths homework session.

Busy school weeks? Let the tutor come to you.

For parents in Dubai: extra learning support can happen in the comfort of your home, without another journey in the school week.

Whether your child is building early reading skills, working through tricky maths or ready for a new challenge, we tailor the support to them. Phonics, English, maths and more, across UK, US and IB curricula.

Tell us your area, your child’s year group and the support you’re looking for. WhatsApp +971 55 404 0439 to enquire about tutor availability.

Identify the need. Target the teaching. Share the progress.

At Learn@Home, we turn assessment information into action.

1. We identify where to help.
Your Learner Profile brings the evidence together to establish clear priorities. In this PTE example, complex inference is the area to explore.

2. We target the teaching.
Targeted tuition addresses the specific skill: connecting clues, explaining meaning and practising with expert feedback.

3. We track progress.
We review fresh work, share clear updates with parents and use the results to plan the next step.

Start with a clearer understanding of your child’s learning. DM PROFILE.

Alex Morgan is a fictional name; the GL PTE figures are genuine. The complex-inference result is 33% versus 37% in the UK sample, across only three questions, so we investigate it alongside wider work. These are raw percentages, not national rankings. The carousel describes our support process; no follow-up results are shown.

Progress is something parents notice in everyday learning, too.

Simoné describes tutoring sessions her child enjoyed, a patient and engaging tutor, and professional, reliable communication. Her Google review highlights a change that mattered to the family:

“we have seen a noticeable improvement in both confidence and understanding.”
— Simoné, Google review excerpt

This is one family’s experience of personalised support. It is a reminder to look beyond a completed worksheet and ask how a child feels about learning and what they now understand.

Homework time can get tricky in different ways. Which part causes the most friction in your home?

A — Getting started
B — Understanding the task
C — Staying focused
D — Finishing independently

Comment A, B, C or D—or tell us what we missed. More than one is welcome.

Your questions help shape our Wednesday Learning Clinic. We’ll explore a parent question in a future post.

Please leave out names and personal details.

A full week can leave little room to pause. Tagore’s words offer a gentle reminder to make space for rest alongside learning.

A Friday thought for families making room to breathe this weekend.

Your child’s online homework may be complete. But how much of the learning was theirs? 👀

AI has moved beyond giving answers. AI agents can interact with websites and complete tasks—raising new questions about what homework scores actually tell us.

A finished activity or a perfect score doesn’t always show what a child understands independently.

Tonight, take a few minutes to sit down together:

💬 Ask which AI tools they use and what they use them for.
📱 Explore their AI conversations together.
🧠 Ask them to explain something they’ve recently learnt.
🤝 Agree on when AI can help and when they need to do the thinking themselves.

AI can be a powerful learning tool. Children need guidance to use it thoughtfully, question its answers and keep developing their own skills.

Save this as a conversation starter and share it with another parent.

“I can’t do it.”

When a child says this before they’ve started, pause and find the part that feels difficult.

The instruction may be unclear, the task may feel too big, or they may be worried about getting it wrong. These are possibilities to explore; the words alone don’t tell us why.

Try a small starting point:
• Ask: “Show me where you’re stuck.”
• Read the first instruction together and ask your child to explain it in their own words.
• Choose one manageable part, such as one sentence or one question.
• Give them time to try the next step before stepping in.

Notice when this happens and what helps. Make a note of the task, the time of day and the support that helped them begin. If getting started remains difficult, or it’s causing distress, take a work example to their teacher and discuss what support may help.

Save this for the next tricky homework moment, or share it with a parent who may find it useful. DM us if you’d like support understanding your child’s learning needs.

A familiar moment: they could answer yesterday, but today it’s harder to recall.

Research by Cepeda and colleagues found that the timing of a later review affected how well adults remembered facts. The most helpful gap depended on how long they needed to remember them.

One thing to try at home: choose three facts from this week’s learning. Revisit them briefly on two later days. Invite your child to recall each fact, then check the answer together and talk through anything that needs another explanation.

This is a practical way to try spaced practice. The study involved adults, so it doesn’t give us one ideal timetable for every child.

Save this to try at home.

“I’m bad at maths.”

Sometimes, a broad statement needs a more specific question: which part?

A strong overall result can still reveal an area worth exploring. Here, problem solving stood out as a relative priority, prompting a closer look at multi-step questions.

This is where our Learner Profile helps. We bring assessment results, school information and parent insight together to identify strengths, explore difficulties and recommend practical next steps.

For multi-step problems, that might mean modelling one example, practising together, then checking understanding independently.

Less guesswork. A clearer starting point.
