Betting on Dubai
I remember sitting in a business lounge in DIFC, discussing a potential deal with an investor. As we went through the numbers and opportunities, he leaned in and said, “Listen, I’ve been through 2008. I’ve been through Covid. I’ve seen this playbook before. The UAE leadership always plans ten years ahead. They don’t react to panic. They execute the vision. This will pass, and this country will come back stronger and stronger. That’s why I’m writing bigger checks right now.” His confidence was contagious. In that moment, I understood why the strongest players always bet on Dubai.
Dubai is buzzing, as always. Yet when I talk to investors and business leaders around the city, a clear pattern emerges. While some panic during global uncertainty, the smart ones double down. They trust the country, the leadership, and the long-term vision. Only the weak players leave their market share behind. The strong see opportunity where others see risk. When everyone pulls back, there is less noise and more room to grow. Entrepreneurs, brokers, and businesses who stay focused and keep working hard are the ones who capture the opportunities left behind by fear.
Dubai has faced crises before. In 2008, during the financial meltdown, and again during COVID-19, the city didn’t just survive. It came back stronger. The ABS model, Attraction, Branding, State led development, ensured investors stayed confident. Those who invested when others sold ended up reaping the biggest rewards. The leadership always acts decisively, creating policies that protect growth while encouraging smart investment.
But even in a city full of opportunities, success isn’t just about money. That’s where networking comes in. I follow two timeless principles: build the well before you’re thirsty, and focus on the other person’s needs. Deep rapport comes from helping others achieve what they want or easing their challenges. When I meet someone, I don’t just exchange cards. I ask about their biggest challenge and truly listen. I think first about how I can add value before asking for anything in return. In Dubai, networking is not only about flashy events. It’s about meaningful conversations where you solve problems together. Your network is your net worth, but only if it’s built on authenticity and trust.
Finally, a heartfelt thank you to the leaders of this country, His Highness Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, for creating a space where people feel safe, confident, and inspired to build businesses and lives. In Dubai, strength comes not from reacting to fear, but from trusting the journey and the vision.
