Patrimonia FAMILY BUSINESS ADVISORS
We help family businesses institutionalize how they own, govern, and pass on their wealth, so succession feels planned not improvised.

We bring order so decisions are calmer, roles are clear and the family moves forward together.

Family members joining the business is rarely the problem. The absence of criteria for how and when they join usually is.

Without a policy, every hire becomes a judgment call, and every judgment call becomes a precedent someone else will point to later.

A family employment policy isn't about excluding family. It's about defining, in advance, what qualifies someone to work there, and what doesn't.

Written down, it protects relationships. Left unwritten, it tests them.

A property in one country.
A holding company in another.
Family members residing across three time zones.

Each jurisdiction brings its own tax rules, inheritance laws, and reporting requirements and most families never coordinate them into a single view.

The result is not usually fraud or negligence.
It's fragmentation: decisions made locally, with no one seeing the full picture.

Cross-border wealth needs one thing domestic wealth doesn't: a structure built specifically to hold complexity together, not just track it.

Every business eventually faces a disruption it didn't forecast a market shock, a sudden departure, a supply chain break.

What determines the outcome isn't whether leadership predicted it.
It's whether there was already a structure for making fast decisions without abandoning process.

Businesses without that structure default to whoever shouts loudest, or whoever happens to be reachable.

Continuity planning is not a document in a drawer. It's a governance habit, practiced before it's needed.

NextGen development is often treated as a timeline: a few years in finance, a stint abroad, then a seat at the table.

Experience alone doesn't build readiness. Decisions do.

The NextGen leaders who step in well are the ones who were given real authority earlier, small decisions first, with real consequences, inside a structure that let them learn safely.

A mentorship plan without decision rights is just an extended internship.

An exit is often planned around a number: valuation, multiple, structure of the deal.

Rarely planned: what the family does with the proceeds, how decisions get made once the operating business is gone, and what holds the family together when the shared project disappears.

Liquidity without governance tends to scatter faster than people expect.

The families who exit well have already answered: who oversees the capital, what it's meant to fund, and how the next generation is involved.

The founder planned for his children. He didn't plan for who his children would marry.

Spouses join family gatherings, family businesses, and eventually family disputes often without ever being asked what role they're expected to play.

Some family constitutions address this directly: can in-laws work in the business? Can they own shares? Do they have a voice in decisions?

Silence on this question doesn't prevent the issue. It just delays the conversation to a moment with higher stakes.

Ask five people in a family business who can approve a $10,000 expense, and you'll often get five different answers.

Without clear authority levels, every decision big or small routes through the same one or two people. Not because it needs to. Because no one ever defined otherwise.

The businesses that move fastest aren't the ones with the fewest rules. They're the ones with the clearest ones who can decide what, up to what amount, without asking first.

Speed is not the opposite of structure. It's a result of it.

Governance is not one-size-fits-all.

In the Middle East and across Europe, family businesses are built on trust, on relationships, on culture.

Importing a generic governance model undermines what made the family strong.

We build structures around the DNA of each family, shaped for the EMEA context, calibrated to values, and designed to endure across generations.

A shareholders' agreement is not the same as governance.

One tells you what happens when things go wrong. The other ensures things go right more often.

Decision frameworks. Meeting structures. Dispute resolution protocols.
These are not legal documents.
They are the daily infrastructure of partnership.

Partners who have built them together rarely need lawyers.

Legacy is not measured in assets.
It is measured in how clearly authority passes, how smoothly leadership transitions,
and how long the values that built the family endure.

The most admired multigenerational families in the world share one thing in common:
they invested in structure long before they needed it.

Legacy is not what you leave behind.
It is what you put in place today.
